I have a question about SpecForce "Vanguard" 28/60.
The name printed on the card is "SpecForce Vanguard" [sic] and the flavor text says "Surprise is no replacement for firepower".
I just looked up the quote on page 76 (upper left) of "Rules of Engagement: The Rebel SpecForce Handbook" by West End Games.
The Quote, "Surprise is no replacement for firepower", is the mantra of the the "SpecForce Heavy Weapon Specialists", also known as "SpecForce Gunners" for short, not the "SpecForce Vanguards". In all honesty, I cant find the word "Vanguard" in the entire book.
My question is as follows:
Is the name on card 28/60 a typo and should read, "SpecForce Gunner" or is the flavor text a typo??? Thank you in advance for your help.
The Rebel Vanguard Division was also a part of the SpecForce 6th Regiment, aka the Heavy Weapons Specialists. The WEG Rebel SpecForce Handbook doesn't call them Vanguards, but all the Vanguards were, in fact, from the 6th Regiment, so they shared that same mantra.
Here's a quote from Wookieepedia: "When assigned to a taskforce, HWS personnel were commonly called either "gunners" if they specialized in heavy blaster weaponry or vehicle-mounted weapons, or "vanguards" if they specialized in shoulder-fired missile launchers in an anti-mechanized unit role."
The new ones specifically represent the Vanguards; in the future we could potential make a SpecForce Gunner, who would also represent a 6th Regiment SpecForce soldier, but would have more of a gunner flavor.
