Well, it seemed to me like there were a lot of people who were convinced (or were just arguing this point to be trolls) that SWM would be picked up by another company, and the same rules would be kept. essentially, the game would be picked up where WotC left off. Well, as much as I hate polls, I started one to see (not too scientifically) how widespread that opinion is.

I don't see any (well, much of a) chance that the game will be continued at the commercial level with the same ruleset. Why do so many (at least of the more vocal people) think so?

The above poll is a more specific follow up to this below one, which was the one that first suprised me (although the most-selected option is rather vague and could include more than one of the answers on my poll):

Bloomilk has had a bit of checkered history when it comes to voting and smurfs. So I don't really put much weight into either poll, to be honest.

I'm trying to choose between, "won't be the same" and "license won't be picked up".

Oh, the license will be picked up. That, Im almost certain of. The question is whether or not they will 1) even make a minis game, and if they do, 2) will wotc give legal rights to this new company to continue using the format they have developed, and if they do 3) will the new company decide to change anything about the game the way it is/was?

My answers:
1) Dont know
2) Possibly, since they do have the Open Gamer's License with rpgs
3) Probably

Lucas definitely has well defined licenses. The card game license has been sitting open since WizKids was closed up, that's what the Pocketmodels game was being sold as. With WotC letting their licenses lapse, that means the miniatures, RPG and card game licenses will all be sitting open.

If someone picks up the miniatures license, they're doing it to make a miniatures game.
