We had 12 players for the Meltdown, including a couple guys who made a longer trip to join us. 8-)

We split the players into two teams of 6 players. The four Mos Eisley maps were placed randomly to make one large battlemap and each team set up along the long edges.

The scenario rules we devised are below. The players did not know what the extra rules were ahead of time. All they knew is that it was going to be a mass-battle. Some funny moments as players were caught off-guard and/or were guessing what was going to happen next.

Here are some pictures along with comments.

Everybody loved the maps and some wanted to know where to get them. One order is being placed this week. Others will follow.

The open lines of fire on the sides and down the middle didn't have as big of an impact as I thought they might. Granted, there was some of that (Durge triple attacking Luke's Snowspeeder with one hit being a crit very early was the biggest impact of note), but after that devastating first turn assault many figure sought the safety of the buildings to advance.

12 players was quite a few for the game; breaking it down to two smaller games would have been nice (but we weren't prepared for that). But having limited squads to 8 figures and activating 1 helped move it along. After the first round, we had two players (ie - #1 and #7) taking their turns simultaneously so each person didn't have to wait as long between turns.

extra rules for the scenario:

Mos Eisley Meltdown
Kryptonite Kollectibles version

Setup:
Each player builds a 175 point team with a maximum of 8 figures.

The following are placed randomly on the map as “Neutral” figures.
• 8 Stormtroopers, 1 Stormtrooper on Dewback
• 8 Jawas, 1 Jawa on Ronto
• 1 Jabba (either version), 1 Garindan, 1 Greedo, 8 thugs (various low point, non-unique, palace-type figures)
Special rules for each group are below.

Scenario rules:
• Players are split into two teams. Although working together, players’ squads on each team do not share Commander Effects with other squads. Players on a team may not attack their teammates.
• Each player will activate 1 figure per phase. Figures that allow deviations from that will apply (ie – Grand Moff Tarkin) as normally.
• Neutral figures have the following effects:
o Neutrals may not be attacked unless they attack.
o They will attack back if they get hit by an area effect (ie – grenades).
o Group rules:
 Stormtroopers: when a figure moves within 4 squares, the closest will immediately move 3 squares if necessary to become adjacent and detain the figure unless that figures makes a save of 11 or use Jedi Mind Trick (no save applies). Detained figures end their turn immediately. Only one Stormtrooper may attempt to detain a figure during a turn.
 Jawas: make an immediate attack on Droids within 8 squares.
 Jabba: grants the first player figure to move adjacent to him the choice of the following:
• +10 damage
• SA Blaster 20 (replaces attacks: sight; +12 Attack for 20 Damage)
 Jabba’s thugs (except Garindan or Greedo): when a figure with the Bounty Hunter SA moves within 6 squares, the closest will immediately move 5 squares if necessary to become adjacent and that player draws a random “job” (see below). After a thug has given a job, he stays there and has no further effect.
 Garindan: moves towards the closest Kenobi or Luke figure. When within 6 squares, he calls for Greedo.
 Greedo: will move towards the Kenobi or Luke spotted by Garindan and attack when first possible OR move towards any Han within 10 squares and attack when first possible.
• Each team is given 4 spies (Aqualish, Bothan, Defel, and Talz) to use. Spies have the following effects:
o Spies may not be attacked unless they attack.
o Spies prevent adjacent opposing team figures from attacking or using an ability that replaces attacks.
o Spies may be activated instead of a player activating his own figure.
o Spies gain Cunning Attack +20 in addition to printed abilities.

Bounty Hunter jobs:
1. Defeat the nearest opposing Imperial / Rebel figure to earn 25 bonus points (may substitute Republic / Separatist if necessary)
2. Attack the highest point opposing figure to earn 15 bonus points
3. Attack the nearest opposing Force user figure to earn 15 bonus points
4. Defeat the nearest opposing Commander figure to earn 25 bonus points
5. Defeat the nearest opposing figure with Flight or speed ≠6 to earn 25 bonus points
6. Defeat the nearest opposing figure with Stealth to earn 25 bonus points
7. Attack the nearest opposing Unique figure to earn 15 bonus points
8. Defeat the nearest opposing ranged/melee (same as the figure getting the job) figure to earn 25 bonus points

For a variation, instead of bonus points, the figure can do double damage against the opposing figure noted above on its next attack, if successful.

Victory Conditions:
• Defeat all figures of the other team, or
• Earn points equal to or greater than # of players on a team * 175 by defeating opposing figures and/or completing bounty jobs, or
• Have the highest point total when time runs out

As hoped, the extras of the spies, jawas, stormies, and Jabba's thugs added a little to the game without overpowering it.

A couple figures being detained by the stormies and jawas shooting a couple droids in the first couple turns made players a little cautious, but not overly so.

Jabba's "team" effects didn't come in to play until mid-game. But there were only five figures with Bounty Hunter in the game and two didn't move far from their starting spots. But the couple who were given jobs were pleased. And the player who moved near Jabba liked the positive surprise choice he was given.

Looks like you guys had fun. If I was going to go what I was going to run was Gen Skywalker with some old CS Jedi.
This weekend I will be busy running the projector for the church choir's Christmas play. Looks like you guys had fun. Cool to see new faces. I think we should do something like this again but with less people more the time.
JC This was a great I idea to give out maps to get buzz.

Awesome, I love the extra rules. Can you go more in detail as to the interaction of the NPC fig's like the stormies and the Jawas.

And the IG team took the win over the orange team. Although there were several times our team was unsure that we'd win, considering the stuff that was moving up to fight us.
It was by far one of the most fun events I've been to.

P.S.: I joined SWMGamers just so I could see these images and it was worth it. Those are great pictures.
