Mine (#3) was actually 3 Ugnaughts, instead of 2 Ugos and the Gran. There's a reason behind it, but I don't give away those kinds of secrets. :P

The missing squad is #7 repeated. Matt and I ran the same thing.

And not to be a jerk or anything, but 3&4 were tied. Same with 5-8. My tournament report says I placed 5th :)

Found this of interest. This squad came in 33rd at the Championship:

Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter
R2-D2, Astromech Droid
Jedi Weapon Master x2
Wicket
Ugnaught Demolitionist x5
Ewok x1
Map: Geonosis

:P

I lost to the winner, the 4th place guy lost to the 2nd place finisher. So, that's how it works! :P

Wow, almost the exact same squad. Odd. Probably didn't know how to play it correctly or didn't have enough practice as dr_divot. No offense to the 33rd place finisher.

That's simply made up an arbitrary Lobo.

I beat the 2nd place finisher in Swiss. So how does that factor in?

Official touney report says I finished 5th :) That's what I'm going with.

If we have had a cancellations bracket I am sure I would have finished higher than 7th/8th. But we did not.

Its not as odd as you think. It was Bgartz, a player from Dr. Divot's LGS. Together with Emr, they all came together, and Bgartz and Divot played the same squad.

I dont think a skill or practice difference let DD finish 1st and BG 33rd since they practiced and prepared together.

I think luck had a lot to do with it, as it did for anyone who made the top 8.

It's not arbitrary; when players tie with W/L points, they move to a series of tiebreakers that reference your "strength of schedule," or how well your opponents did. You may have beat #2, but apparently something else either threw your tiebreakers down or #4's up.

Yes all true. However, Lobo is not referring to the Swiss tie breaker rankings. I was ranked 2nd going into the single elim part. And that was only because I had lost my last game to Dr. Divot which boosted his ranking above mine. And I was assured a spot in the finals prior to that game as I was the only 6-0 (and we were told we would end after 6). So as round 6 ended, and I had to play 7th meaningless game (other than for seeding) I played it very loosely and was happy to end it early to get some food.

Lobo is using the fact that he lost in the semis to Dr. Divot as a way to say he placed one spot ahead of the guy who lost in the same round to Barzilla.

It has nothing to do with tie breakers. And I was just joking anyway. It was funny that the thread seemed to imply that there was an actual 1-8 ranking determined at Gencon and there was not.

We merely played 7 rounds of Swiss and took the top 8 to single elim. You could go by the SoS and determine ranking, but that is pretty pointless as I pointed out. It honestly was not that important, I was just having fun with lobo and with my squad being in 8th :)

Wow, dunno how I missed this thread, but yes, that was Bgartz29. He faced 2 San squads and completely ignored my advice I gave to him regarding San on the trip up (get in the lead... STAY in the lead (actually I said: Get in the lead, stall for victory, meaning don't engage or risk anything until you are losing the lead)). I was debating about playing the same squad but I knew I did not practice it as much as them (I missed the two Saturdays when they got together and tried it out multiple times).

I will say this, as I said on my first post after GenCon: It is no doubt that the best player from our venue scored the highest. I may know the rules better, but man I can not predict or be as careful in my moving as Kelly. Billy has one his share of events elsewhere as well, so I think he just was not prepared for timed-out losses.

And if I remember correctly, you also warned us prior to Gencon you were bringing a "ringer". Although Dr. Divot wouldnt qualify as a true out of nowhere winner, he certainly wasnt on a lot of people's radar.

Did Kelly face a lot of San Hill squads on their map? I dont remember at this point. I know he played Lobo, but dont know whose map. Did he have better success against them, or just get lucky on draws and maps?

My game against Kelly was on my map, Death Star. Would've probably been very different had the game been on Geonosis. I just don't think I'm familiar enough with that map to have played correctly against him on it. Definitely would've been interesting.

Yeah, interestingly, he saw the post immediately and was not too happy with it next Monday when we met. He said 'thanks for putting the pressure on me'. Heh, I guess it worked out all right!

His report is here: http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=13483945&postcount=21

We as a group are feeling the itch again, I think it might be time for a road trip to another venue and playing in a tourney (the trip is well over half the fun, especially if I am driving... something always goes wrong!).

This is just a list of the various squads, but in what order? Alphabetical order by player name? Order by who signed up first? It'd be nice if we could put it in a list from first place on down.
