Way to go JC! You truly are worthy to be in the hall. For most people, customs are what happens when you get bored or want more from what the game creators give you. For me, I started by buying a collection of figures around Bounty Hunters and had no access to official maps without spending a ton of money. I soon found the Holocron and downloaded some maps. I played only on customs for a long time. Theed is my all time favorite map. This is a great time to be a SWM gamer. :boba:

Are we allowed to suggest people for the Hall of Fame?

If so, I'd suggest Chuck Monarch (chuckm) for his contributions through the SWMiniManager.

I really haven't been paying much attention to the hubbub over this. I find it really odd that Rob is only a Nominee at this point as he has been head designer since set one. I also find it odd that none of the artists and sculptors that designed and created the minis themselves are even acknowledged. I know Wizards like to keep that sort of info under wraps, but this not being an official Wizards site, you don't have to abide by those rules.

Keep in mind that the "spirit" of this is based on Magic the Gathering. Richard Garfield himself is not even a member of the Magic HOF. In magic, the closest thing they have to a non player in the Hall is Randy Buehler and he still won over $50,000 on the tour(he is currently in R&D). They also have to wait 10 years after their first pro tour event to be eligible. They also have been around since '93 and only have 15 members(the HOF didn't start til '05). My interpretation of what Dean is trying to accomplish is to reward the people who have made the minis community a better place (and rightfully so). I think everyone's opinions on the Hall are valid, but I think some people making it a public outcry (I don't mean you R5Don4) if someone they think should be in isn't is just a tad kneejerky. I will start taking my plastic crack more seriously when we start getting some "magic" money, until then relax and have some fun with it. :boba:

The reason Rob is a nominee, and as demonstrated by the fact he came in first place among votes tallied, is that his commitment to the SWM community has been exceptional. I know many people, myself included, who wouldn't have stuck with SWM as long as we have if not for Rob's level of support. He is very personable and very customer-minded when it comes to this game, and it's clear from the way the vote turned out that a lot of people felt that way.

Sure, we could have just auto-inducted him as we did some of the others, but I believe that putting him on the ballot sent a stronger message from the fans and customers of this game about how important Rob is to the community. I am glad my gut instinct on that one was correct. You see, I nominated him.

And why does Gary M Sarli aka the hutt was not listed? His Jedi Counselling section is a great contribution for the society right?

No it is not a great contribution to the SWM gaming society. Most of the questions answered are jokes and so easy to understand in the first place. I think the biggest question he ever settled was is Chewe/Tarful a Wookiee.

Coupled with the fact that JC is a "guideline" document and NOT enforceable in a tournament.

As I was sitting with fellow Hall of Famers Eric Larson and Dean Miller at GenCon 2008 (socializing), I thought it might be kind of neat to have an annual get together every year. GenCon seems like the perfect opportunity, but I realize that time can be a real issue, especially since we all have events and other things going on. So what better than an annual GenCon SWM Hall of Fame Breakfast. Current Hall of Famers could get together for breakfast at Steak and Shake (1 block from the Convention Center) or wherever just to mingle and socialize with each other. The breakfast would probably have to be on Saturday or Sunday around 6:00am-7:00am. Typically I have events starting around 8:00am, so I figure everyone else is probably getting started around then too. Thoughts?

Shawn.

actually that is great Shawn as Jim, Nate and I ate there every morning except Saturday so I dont think that would be hard to do at all...... It was great fun hangin out with you and Eric. I got a laugh at the beginning of the game as Eric seemed so worried about Drain Life. I found it hilarious due to the fact that his squad with Lucien was so much better than mine with Kreia.
Awesome! When the next GenCon rolls around I'll start putting the word out about getting the Hall of Famers together for what will be the 1st annual GenCon SWM Hall of Fame Breakfast.

Dean,
I think its time to start nailing down our plans for future induction into the Hall. Should we start a new area where only Hall members can read and contribute?

Just curious, but what do you guys think of this post by Stssparks?

http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/ ... e_Thoughts

I think Rob and Sarah did more than earn a paycheck with SWM, but to each his own.

I made a comment over there defending both entries.

I love STSParks, he's a great dude, and someone I have alot of respect for. His comments made me a little sad, but I still respect him.

I hope we're not gearing up for anothe civil war again, it looks like the forums are getting ready to boil over again.

Well I can't stop laughing at the stupidity of the moderators. They deleted the INITIAL POST and everything that referred to it, but left the rest of the thread intact, and now it's a big, jumbled mess. LMAO ROFLMAO, in fact.

As a result of some of the stuff said in that thread (and some stuff not said), I removed the site from my bookmark at home and at work. About the only thing I'll e doing over there from now on is checking PMs, which I shouldn't have too many since only my friends can write to me lol.

I'm never going to understand the controversy and animosity towards the hall of fame. It comes down to jealousy I guess. But sometimes I wonder if the membes of the hall of fame need to do things to improve the perception of what the hall of fame is to others.

I don't know. I feel like everyone in the HOF deserves it, but theres just so many people that are so bitter about the whole thing.

Like i said earlier it makes me sad.

To me, it seems as though one of two things has happened:

a) Stsparks is sucker-punching people who aren't going to fight back, because he's petty, or

b) he wants to get a controversy to get people arguing, which is baiting

I'm leaning towards b) since stsparks is happy he got attention.

It's a pity he had to be so immature and pull a TS, but I guess sometimes you learn a person's true nature in an unexpected way.

NAh,Sparky's not like that. He's an HOF member himself. but honestly I don't know his motivations. perhaps he's just disalusioned(sp?)

Well actually I can tell you what it is. I think there are people - and I have received several PMs/e-mails about it, especially since that thread went up - that believe everything should be said out in the open.

I can't stress how terrible that idea is. For one thing, it would make the thread a lot more hostile than it would otherwise be. For another, the WotC mods would have control over how the discussion developed. And thirdly, you'd get people like trapped who would feed off the hostility and use it as a way to further their own petty agendas - specifically, attacking the concept and the people involved out of dislike for those people.

I've been accused of simply defending Bill and Dean because of my comments, which is kind of funny, especially if you know how well Bill and I get along (meaning we usually argue). But in this case, I think full disclosure would only mean the death of the HoF.

I don't think it is jealousy. I think it is spite. And yes, sparks was probably just looking to rally an argument. I don't think he really understands how dangerous doing that sort of thing is with trapped around. Trapped has committed himself to attacking the community and its members - particularly the ones he has grudges against - using every loophole at his disposal. And he's been successful with those loopholes so far. Regrettably so.
