OK, there is a good story here. About midway through the semi-finals, the light bulb went on.

Back up two days........ The Pastimes stage crew get to eat behind the stage with food that is brought in for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The judges get a per diem for working tournaments. Now I fall in the former catagory. Each morning, the breakfast food of choice is bagels. Now I like bagels as much as the next guy, but sometimes you need to have a doughnut! So I ask who is local and driving in each day. Phillip Carlisle raises his hand and I asked him to stop off and pick up two dozen at the local doughnut shop. I give him a $20 and give him a broad outline of what to get (choc is really perferred). Now I ask Rashad, who is a the lead Magic official for Pastimes, if he has a request. Of course, he whispers that he would like a cherry filled with no icing. I quickly make Phillip aware and he comes through the next morning. Ironically, both dozen doughnuts are gone in less than an hour and a half. The day goes through its normal craziness... However, that same evening, I notice that two guys are doing live streams of video for some of the Magic tourneys, specifically the final matches.

OK, Since the first time went well, I asked Phillip to bring in two dozen the next day and he comes through again. This time, I see Alan Hochman himself eating a doughnut and when he sees me, he rolls his eyes and smiles, thanking me for providing the doughnuts. Maybe next year we will not have any issues with all bagels. Anyway, that morning Rashad sees me behind the stage and again, thanks me for the doughnut.

Back to the light bulb..... I am standing there watching and it occurs to me that we could stream the final. I take off back to the Pastimes stage and am informed that the video process in overseen by none other than Rashad (cherry filled doughnuts). He immediatley says yes, calls up Ray, his partner and the rest is history. Except for the part of requesting Lou to do the commentary..... Dean and Jim Wysz tell me that Lou is the perfect guy to do the play by play. We call Louie over and tell him what we are thinking. He gives us a reluctant look until he realizes I'm the Godfather and that refusal is well, futile.

Anyway, the reason we got the video live stream of the final is all due to........ Phillip Carlisle. There you have it!!!

Yep, big thanks to everyone involved. I shared that with Alan today when I was down there to pick up my Ipod!

Yeah that was great as I was unable to attend this year...at least I was able to watch the final match. I didn't watch it live but I watched it a few hours later. Great job and a great idea!

that was probably one of the best parts about sunday. I was doing the sealed during the finals and couldn't watch the whole match, but watching it sunday night was really cool. Here's hoping you can pull it off again next year

That's REALLY cool Jim!! I didn't realize that this was something that happened at the last minute. For some reason, I had thought you had it planned all along. It's DEFINITELY something we'll have to plan on doing next year as well.

Might be cool to live-stream the last game between the two 6-0 players on Saturday next year as well. ;)

Very cool, Jim. It's your ongoing passion to see the game thrive that makes you the perfect guy to be in charge.

It's amazing how donuts can make things like this possible. Now I wonder what would happen if we brought in pizza? Or Canadian beer? :D

This live video was absolutely great. Never would I imagined watching gencon final live from France !
We couldn't really see the minis but the comments made for it. Lou was absolutely brillant as a broadcaster. It was a great idea and I hope you can do it again next year.

Jim told me he was trying to work this out during the second round of eliminations on Sunday. There aren't a lot of things that I use the word "epic" to describe but this setup, airing the final match over the internet, and Jim's ability to pull it off in such a short amount of time?

Absolutely epic.

And what a pleasure to watch! Lou did a phenomenal job as a commentator and I demand that he take on that role every year (though he assures me that, next year, it'll be him at the game table)!

I was also epic-ly pumped when the Godfather mentioned that the final game would be broadcast-ed live on the internets.

I was even more surprised when I got to speak a little about my GenCon experience and playoff game. Big Props to Jim for getting the going, it would be also cool next year to expand it to an overview cam (or two) of the playoff table, so everyone can see (very smally) the playoff games.
