I hope this is the right place for this..if not will an admin or some one with those powers please move it to the right place?

the frist saturday of next month I'll be running a non DCI tournament for the frist time.

I've read the wiki article on swiss rounds to understand how they work but i'm still not 100% sure i understand,so my question is what would be a fair way to set up the matches correctly, since every is realitivly a new player along with any other suggestions.

The following are going to be the maps that will be used:

freight station
Imperial base
Hoth outpost

why the limited slection? Well because its all I have and for the foreseeble future all i can afford and i'm the only one with the minis and maps for now.

restricting formats by set
Some chosing not to play the game if and when another company picks it up without the current mechanics

each player is supposed to bring their own map and die in addition to their squad.

The DCI software will do all the pairings for you.

don't sweat it!
sounds like you are off to a great start- you got an event planned!

just make sure you have a current copy of the rules and the Errata ready in hand
remember if you are the "Judge"; your word is law-
mistakes will happen -
the important thing is to be firm and confident, you can apologize later if you made an error

swiss is simple enough to to do-
winners play winners
losers play losers-
sombody is gonna be paired down eventually... it's OK
(Keep a record of what you are doing)

keep us posted about how things are going, keep advertisng in asmany places as you can

God luck
and
HAVE FUN

doesn't really matter.. as near as I can tell the DCI software does it randomly...
names in a hat
roll for odds/evens
close letters of last names...
oldest/youngest together

First I just want to say Good Luck. Where are the events you are starting?

For casual days. I often use a dice. When I get down to the last few people, I start doing 1-2 player a, 3-4 player B and 5-6 player c etc. usually goes pretty fast.

Cool, I hope it goes well man. Little too far for me : ) It can take alot of work to get things going but it will be worth it if you stay at it and keep it fun your players.

Most of the work will be letting folks pick thire squads since its going to be from my pool of minis,, I'm pretty sure one player will go with a veers/vader/stormtrooper squad

I always try to make some squads that I feel are pretty balanced and it ends up being really tough because I am too picky : )
