Just curious as to whether or not, due to Affinity (NR), an Ossus Guardian or Antarian Ranger are allowed into the Rebellion via Garm's Reinforcements?

From what I understand, it's "6 to one, half dozen to another". Only NN will be able to fully say, cause it seems most posters are one or the other (aka some say yes, some say no).

One thing to think of is that when you bring Han/Leia into the New Republic through Jason/Jaina their faction becomes New Republic. So if you go with that logic, then you'd be able to because the faction will go from Republic/Vong to New Republic. But Reinforcements are a tricky thing, so some aren't for certain...

This is the first set that such a thing could occur with N/Us. It might be interesting to see that lone YVOG running with Han in STA :)

Based on the glossary definitions (from Bloomilk), I would say no.

Quote:
REINFORCEMENTS: During setup, after seeing your opponent’s squad, you can add up to 30 points of non-Unique New Republic or Rebel characters to your squad. These characters don’t count toward the cost of your squad, and your opponent doesn’t have to defeat them to win the skirmish. If you are scoring points for defeats, or in a tiebreaker, defeating these extra characters doesn’t score points.

Quote:
AFFINITY: The specified character can be in the specified squad even if it belongs to a different faction. That character's faction is now considered to be the same as that squad's. For example, Mas Amedda would have the Imperial faction if he is in an Imperial squad.

Garm can bring in New Republic or Rebel CHARACTERS.

Affinity states that the cahracter can be in the SPECIFICED squad (eg, Republic). That character's faction is NOW considered to be the same as that squad's.

Therefore, the Antarian Ranger's faction, for example, is only New Republic IN A NEW REPUBLIC SQUAD (and only AFTER joining the squad. If Garm is in a Rebel squad, the Antarian Ranger or Ossus Guardian would never actually join a New Republic squad, so it would never change from it's original faction.

Assuming the glossary definitions from Bloomilk are correct and complete, it seems pretty clear-cut.

That's what I'm thinking, that they won't be considered New Republic until AFTER they're already in the squad. But you never know, we can easily be thrown for a loop here with them and they'll be allowed. It could be that once they're selected for Reinforcements then they are considered to be part of that specific squad. Half of us say "yes", half of us say "no".

And FYI, they can still work with Han in STA and the Ithorian Commander thanks to Garm (Reinforcements) and Jaina (Affinity), definitely something I'm gonna try at 200 ^_^

Yeah, I'm tending to agree with gwek's line of thinking on this one. We'll see I guess.
