Sooo...I've noticed a distinct lack of consolidated discussion as to what may or may not constitute Tier 1 for the 2009 Regionals.

So let's start it here!

I think there are three squads that many agree are Tier 1, or at least will be played at many regionals... (of course, if you don't, post why not!)

GOWK + Rex/Dash/JWM (two of the three)

LV + Opportunist Thrawn (B&B)

Vong of Dewm (Jedi Hunters)

What else is formulating in people's heads as to what may win Regionals? (I have some more that local players have tossed around, when I get home I will post some more)....

I think the Rebel Push squads could stand a small chance, but it will really depend on what other things get played. They will struggle against Vong in particular, so if there's a strong Vong player in the area, that could be a risky move.

I think it's also worth noting that there are other possibilities with GOWK as well.

GOWK + JWM + JWM + Jarael may still see some action. I'm half tempted to play it sometimes, lol. It annihilates any version of B&B, frankly, as Vader has a dickens of a time hitting the JWMs, while they freely Riposte back.

Plus, you're still going to see people play the obligatory Boba BH squads, like GOWK/Boba or Vader Unleashed/Boba, stuff like that. Might see a couple people attempt to use Mandos as well with Boba Merc/Czerka, hoping to stun GOWK.

But not all of those would be considered 'Top Tier 1' I guess.

Hrm...

NR might work, with a Kyle + Kyp squad, or something along those lines.

Lancer? That still viable?

Force Push can be brutal with the right map (Crystophsis or whatnot is brutal).

lancer 86's can beat GOWK i guess. i would of vs shadows but i wanted to see if i could kill GOWK not just kill Rex and hide the lancer for the win. i guess the 86 lancer has done ok in Michigan.

Here's a NR squad that I've had some success with. Though admittedly, the last time I ran it against GOWK/Rex/Dash, I got annihilated, but it's because I made a positioning error that cost me both Jag and Lobot in Round 2.

--Borderline--
45 Mara Jade, Jedi
28 Dash Rendar, Renegade Smuggler
26 Kyp Durron
15 Lobot, Computer Liaison Officer
10 Jagged Fel
10 Luke Skywalker, Force Spirit
9 General Dodonna
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2
(149pts. 9 activations)

You can haunt Kyp against GOWK squads, so you have infinite Lightning, or the FP5 if it is easily available. Even in that game where I lost Jag/Lobot so easily, I still managed to kill GOWK before Kyp and Mara finally succumbed to Rex. With some better placement on my part, I think I could've had a better shot at winning that game. Hard to say for sure though.
