Starts this saturday for the qualifiers 150 points format probably 5 rounds, I expect around 40 people.

Top 8 continues on sunday, champ wins a hoth battle pack and a trip + hotel for a european or international SWM event. There is also a 100 point side event on sunday.

As a star wars miniatures freak I'll be there and I hope to qualify for the top 8. After that with players of equal skills, maps, sides and dice rolls will be huge so who knows ?

I'll post a recap on monday with the details of what is really in the hoth battle pack.

Before leaving for Paris I wanted to thank particularly Billiv15 for his help and advices.

Btw I'll wore my star wars gamers t-shirt at the event so I hope to represent well this site and its members :-)

I can't wait to see what is actually in this thing. That includes a shot of the maps. :)

In the battle of Hoth pack you will find :

Luke on Tauntaun
Han on tauntaun
Leia Hoth commander
rebel snowspeeder
rebel leader
elite hoth trooper x2
atgar canon
Hoth trooper x2

Vader IC
General Veers, hologram
Blizzard scout one

elite snowtrooper
Eweb
snowtrooper x2

We didn't have access to the stat cards...
No new sculpts for the ATST and Veers, just some white paint (snow) for blizzard scout one and an all blue Veers for his hologram version.

I'll post a recap tomorrow for the tournament.

Pity about the lack of stat cards. Still awesome, I can't wait to pick one up.

Well i must admit to been a little disappointed with this set.
I would have preferred 2 Rebels on Tauntaun's instead of Han & Luke as i already have them. At least the rebels on Tauntaun can have more than one in game at a time.
And sod it i just had Vader IC of e bay. And even though Veers and the AT-ST have new stats they are not really new figures just repaints.
I wonder how much it will be here in the UK?

Most of these unique will end up on e bay or i will repaint the Tauntauns for custem figs.
The good: an elite snowtrooper i need a few more. & the agtar cannon is also welcome as is the Eweb same they did not have better stats.

There are some pictures of the pack on WOTC. If you look you can see both Vader IC & Han on Tauntaun are both on round base's.
So i will keep these after all.

So a quick recap.

There were 50 palyers for the 150 point tournament which is really nice for France.
I played a Han canon variation (mustafar map) :
Han scoundrel
Obi FS
Princess Leia
Chewbacca RH
R2/C3
WFF
wicket
2xUD

Game 1 on RotS starter :
Game was pretty easy since my opponent wassn't very experienced and still learning some rules. I contoled the doors and shot his clones to shreds. After Qui gon fell, queen amidala and a 9 FP JWM weren't enough to represent a threat and it was over.

1-0

Game 2 on mustafar :

I won map and side so my opponent Crubls squad was quickly without talon Karrde and Han in STA. Mara rushed but she lacked support and she fell quickly after.

2-0

Game 3 on mustafar :

I lost side this time but my opponent's squad was a Han STA/IC supported by Boba BH. So I was shooting ewoks one after another until Boba BH disentegrated Han scoundrel... But Chewie took it for the team and I won a much closer game than it should be.

3-0

Game 4 on geonosis :

One of the best french player playing his san hill squad, 2BG for reinforcement (wise choice). I was in the arena but I was able to shoot through the magical LoS aurra and kill a BG. I controled the gambit and when aurra fell his only hope was a desintegration on Han that never came.

4-0

Game 5 on geonosis :

Arena side again versus broken boba squad. I managed to kill a JWM with my first 2 activations but the answer was swift and brutal : Leia was desintegrated on the first attack roll... On Boba's second attack roll the WFF designed to kill R2 was aslo desintegrated ! I controled gambit and managed to kill R2 and his scrubs. Boba didn't desintegrated a 3rd time and I won by 9 points when time was called.

5-0

Game 6 on throne room :

I faced a JWM swarm lead by quinlan. I killed his wicket and forgot about impulsive savagery and it hurted when the LS sweep arrived on 3 characters... Time was called just when needed and won by a small margin.

I finished the qualifying roun as the only unbeaten player.

Top 8 was composed of :

2x Crubls
2x Broken Boba
Han canon (me)
B&B
Han/IC swarm
JWM swarm

Top 8 games were played the next day

In quarter finals I faced another Han STA/IC swarm and did well as my squad was really a bad matchup for him.

In the semis I faced a Crubls squad and lost map and side on the rancor pit map. He controlled gambit, I desperately waited for wining an init (I lost the 5 firsts inits). The game was a nail biter and finally after losing a last init Mara managed to kill Han and seal the game.

In the final the Crubls quad won again map and side, he faced a B&B squad and when LV missed 3 out of 4 attacks on jaina (needing 5+) it set the tone for the game. It wa horribles roll after horrible roll and at the end Crubls prevailed.

I finished 3rd (like last year) and had a blast. The event was ran smoothly and an european championship is rumoured to be held in july in France. So good times ahead.

I wanted to thank the whole Vassal SWM community (watching or playing with) because without them I would probably never achieved the top 8 this year. I only had one easy game compared to 4 or 5 last year so the gaming level is rising fast.

Special thanks to Billiv15 as our geonosis strategic session worked as intended and wining versus broken boba despite 2 desintegrations was definitely the highlight of the week end.

If you see some pictures of the event on WotC web site as it is planned, I'm the guy with the blue SWMgamers t-shirt :-)
