OMG...

Playing with you guys last night reminded me very much of the Knights of the Dinner Table comic in which the DM describes the opening scene as the PC's enter town as an active, upbeat festival in prelude to a wedding between the prince and princess. One of the PC's convinces the rest of the group that all the villagers are under the dark influence of the princess, a demon succubus in disguise.

They kill her and some of the villagers to "save the town." Sigh.

Those dark-side points are not for playing 'in character," they are for committing random acts of lethal violence. Also, there won't be any "bonus XP" for going on a irrational, borderline-homicidal rampage against the people who were helping you get back to your ship, so I don't know what you are smoking. :P

LOL I'm burning my game notes tonight. Future sessions are going to revolve strictly around figuring out whether you guys can actually get off this ship alive. Good luck, because you just beat the crap out of a high-ranking, well respected Jedi Master, and Trevor you defied the Jedi Order in the process.

You still don't know for sure who killed the captain of the luxury ship, but it's a good bet he/she/they are still running around here somewhere.

Meh, I thought we were heroes, or at least not villains. Dennis, I thought your initial campaign description and direction sounded really cool. If I had known we would be twisting it into a Dark Side campaign (ie, a campaign where the characters' intentions are pointless killing and whimsical b!tchslapping), I probably wouldn't have signed up in the first place.

I tried to resolve things before they got ridiculous, but I saw that it was going nowhere, despite my voluntary surrender and subsequent attempt at resolving the situation peacefully. So I decided to at least roll some dice.

Yeah I had fun too, don't get me wrong, but try to think about it in real world terms for a moment.

A luxury liner is sailing around the Carribean when the captain is found dead by the head of security aboard the ship. So the first officer, now acting captain, radios for assistance from the Coast Guard. They send a ship to help with the investigation and to get the innocent passengers off the ship. On board the ship is the son of a mafia boss with heavy ties to the U.S. government, who had been in medical school but decided he wanted to be part of the "family." A shoot-out occurs, and the security officer sides with the guys doing the shooting for reasons that can't be explained.

Then the Coast Guard starts sending soldiers over to help complete the evacuation. The shooters are convinced to leave (probably when they realize they will die if they keep shooting) and are assigned quarters as the ship sails back to the harbor.

But the group gets to talking and decide, "Hey, let's go check out the restricted-area weapons section of this ship." Four guards standing there, one of them tells the men they are in a restricted area and need to leave, and the mafia-wannabe grabs and chokes him.

Every attempt to resolve the situation with the group on a COMBAT VESSEL is thwarted, leading right up to the moment the group of terrorists (yes, that is what you are now) decide to overpower a general on board and leave him (or her in this case) for dead. Among this group of terrorists is a soldier on his way back to station, and he violates a direct order in an act of what could only be called treason as he attacks his general.

Dislike for the Republic or Jedi doesn't mean behaving like a madman, necessarily, and even in the imaginary world of a science fiction game there are consequences for irrational actions.

LOL

That is where we are with this now. In the consequences phase. Good luck getting off the ship. :P

Putting our characters on a republic cruiser is not a good thing. Being you have one crime lord and a Mando that really dislikes jedi and all they represent....If we can get back regular I think that will subside.

Subside? So our malicious gripping Crime Lord and jedi/republic-hating Mandalorian will suddenly have those aspects of their characters subside? Like they just ate cheese but now they're feeling better? Do they have multiple-personality disorder? No, from the way you and Bill are playing your characters, these aren't something like PMS, which is here one day and gone a few days later...rather, these characteristics seem to be integral to the very identity of your characters. If by "subside" you mean change, then that's a whole other roleplaying question.

I do think that the story is still salvagable (as Dean suggested), but if the roleplaying is to have any integrity, I think more has to happen other than just "I was having a bad day and wanted to gamble but I couldn't so I went on a pointless killing spree, but I'm feeling better now."

EDIT: Okay, not salvagable...we're now facing the consequences. I imagine this combat vessel will have more than a few officers and soldiers who are a little bit higher than Level 5, which means we could be getting our mammaries handed to us pretty soon.

Well, you have to look at it from my character's perspective. He's a bit of a privileged brat, and is used to getting his way. And now he has been forceably extracted from his luxury cruise and escorted onto a military vessel of which he has no idea what is going on. He followed the one of the only guys he trusts (Janx) who is a former security officer who wanted to go to the armory. The guards wouldn't listen to reason, and didn't respond to being mind tricked, so he had to fight. Simple as that. He doesn't know what side anyone is on, so if you cross him, he is going to respond with violence. He also has little love for the republic (remember, he left Republic med school by choice, and despises his jedi side of the family).

Now, understandably whomever that JM was she was probably pissed that we killed a couple of guards and then droids. But let's be honest here, she came out of the turbolift swinging. I wasn't necessarily going to attack her, but she definately hit first, and tried no negotiations at all - other than demanding surrender.

Why on earth would my character surrender to a jedi who attacked him? I tried Mindtricking her into telling me her intentions and who she was, and it failed. Next thing I know, I'm being hit by her and her guards. Game on :)

And to add to it, two of the only other people he knows in this ship, who fought with him on the last ship, have turned coat and helped the people attacking him. That sure makes him willing to trust other jedi. He watched the Padawan turn on her master. And you wonder why he shoots first, and asks questions later?

Now, consequences are all well and good, but perhaps we need a little more explanation some where. Are we supposed to be on the side of the Republic? And given our histories, I am not sure why I would be partial to them anyway. But we are interested in saving the Senators, I think that was decided last time by the group. I don't think my character would change, but perhaps with a little more information he wouldn't be as quick on the trigger (or grip as it were). Like why would my character want to help the Republic? Boris, you keep saying we should be investigating the murder of the captain, but why would I care about that? Bodemaw has no reason to care, so I am not sure why I should. I mean if there were at least a financial reward or a possibility of gaining more influence in the Senate I could see it. But right now, all I have to go on is some Senators are being plotted against - but knowing my character's history, instability in the Senate just means more bureaucracy, less power, and more room for me to maneuver. So you can see how I could even argue its a good thing for my character :)

Oh man, this is hilarious. Even though I can't participate, I'm really enjoying hearing you guys' recaps afterwards. Sounds interesting to say the least, lol. I'm glad I couldn't have played though. Sounds like Bill's character hates enough other types of people that no matter what I picked, we'd be in the BH vs. Charass situation again. :P

I feel for you though Dennis. Sounds like you're doing a bit of hoop jumping, haha.

Bill there are some problems with your version of what happened. For one thing, your recounting of the events is not accurate. Let's go line-by-line.

1. You were not "forceably extracted." The ship was ordered abandoned so that the Republic could conduct an investigation without hinderance.

2. There was nothing going on to know about. Before I could tell you what was happening (events which happened anyway even though you are not aware of them), you guys decided to go to the armory.

Quote:
He followed the one of the only guys he trusts (Janx)

3. A guy he just met.... (coughmetagamingcough)

Quote:
who is a former security officer who wanted to go to the armory. The guards wouldn't listen to reason, and didn't respond to being mind tricked, so he had to fight. Simple as that.

Okay, stop.
4. This is what ACTUALLY happened. You guys walked down the deck to the armory. There were four guards. You (Bill) said, "Mind Trick." You made the roll on one target and succeeded. One of the other guards then said, "You don't have permission to be here." Dean tried to get you to Mind Trick the whole group, which is not possible in the game, and certainly not at level 5. So, you (Bill) decided to Force Grip the man who asked you - politely - to leave. There was never any real or serious attempt for reasonable discussion with the guards. You tried to make them do what you wanted, and right off the bat when it failed the killing began.

Quote:
He doesn't know what side anyone is on, so if you cross him, he is going to respond with violence. He also has little love for the republic (remember, he left Republic med school by choice, and despises his jedi side of the family).

5. Okay, the Jedi thing is different from what i remember us talking about (I thought he had respect for the Jedi because of his training, but that must have changed or I remember incorrectly). It also alters some of the stuff I had planned for your character to do. So I will grant you that one. :)

6. Umm, no she didn't "come out swinging." She threw Janx against the wall. That was it. She initially started by trying to talk you guys down, but Dean kept going on about how he was going to shoot her, so I made a Use the Force check for her in secret and she realized Janx intended her harm, based on my roll. She reacted accordingly. It was when the Padawan and a couple of the guards turned on each other and on Rusala (the Jedi Master for those not in the game) that things turned ugly. And what did Janx do? Rather than try to figure it out, he killed the Padawan - who Rusala asked be stunned, NOT killed, so she could be questioned - and then everyone took sides either with Rusala or against her, without any interest in asking questions or trying to figure out what was going on.

7. At this point, I agree - combat was the only course of action left. It's everything leading up to it that was the issue.

Well for someone who doesn't trust Jedi, would your character really be surprised by that? It seems odd that you are so willing to trust them when their loyalties obviously lie somewhere other than with the group of PCs who seem bloodthirsty and vicious. That is the path to the dark side, and either the Jedi PCs know it and don't care, or they are going to have to take a stand against it.

Far be it for me as a GM to force my PCs to mold their characters to fit the game. Seriously. :)
I just don't play the game that way, and I give my PCs in every campaign I run (three in all so far) all the leeway they want, within reason. Does that mean that their actions are without consequence or that they can just have their way however they want? Absolutely not.

The bottom line is your characters killed a guard in the line of duty and the other guards on the ship - hell, in the entire Republic for that matter - aren't going to care too much about your motives, true or not. You guys are in more danger than you realize, danger of your own making I might add. It doesn't help matters that the person sent to negotiate a peaceful resolution was left for dead on the poison-filled armory deck while you guys made your escape into the turbolift.

I'm not saying you did anything wrong player-wise or character-wise, but that also doesn't mean tabula rasa, either.

It was fun, I had fun with it, I hope you don't think otherwise. :)

Yeah you have the datapad, as for bargaining I opened that door for you guys several times and you just kept shooting the person behind the door lmao.

"Controlled chaos" was a great summation. :P

Would next week be better, because I'd rather not play without you given that we're in the middle of the current scenario.

Hey guys, I owe an apology. I am currently in a boot camp to assist in getting a new job which has really caused my availablity to drop. As much as I would like to be a part of this, I am unsure how much I will be able to participate now until the dust settles in a few months. I should have a better handle on things by June once I have graduated and settled into a new job. Sorry for any inconvenience....

So. Somehow the mass chaos continues. Even though I hadn't planned on trying to get Orco back by that method somehow I ended up sending a group of jedi to kill off the rest of the party. So much for my sneaking around, and snatch and grab plan that I wanted to implement.

Odds are very good that my char will be dead by next session. I think I may make a stealth character next time. Or maybe just a pure combat character. I don't think I've made one of those in any of the games I've ever played and somehow that seems like the direction this game is headed.

On the other hand maybe Boris will introduce you guys to superior force and just kill somebody off in order to make a point. Here's hoping.

Sorry Matt, I didn't mean to push you into something you didn't want to do. That is what the PM is for, though, so you can tell me what you intend to do. A lot of time (real time) passed in between your conversation with the council and the attack on Nar Shadaa. At no point did I ever hear or read anything from you that said you wanted to sneak up on Orco. If I missed that, I apologize.

To everyone - there's a lot of talking over each other and needless arguing about how stuff occurs that we need to scale back on. It just adds to the chaos and makes it difficult for everyone to participate. There's way too much trigger-happiness going on, to the level of insanity.

When someone says you are under arrest, you don't throw grenades at them or start shooting them. Only an insane person reacts in such a way.

Ok, characters done. Enjoy

Born during Czerka's occupation of Kashyyyk, Gaarshhk is the son of two wookiees that escaped Czerka's clutches and made it to the Shadowlands with a group of around 30 others. They lived down there for years, slowly being harassed and killed off by a pair of terentateks that had taken up residence in a cave nearby. When Gaar was 17, he accompanied his father and a group of 7 other male wookiees on a hunt to attempt to slay the beats. They managed to catch one apart from it's mate, and killed it, losing two of their number in the process. After a brief council, the survivors moved into the cave. They found the larger of the pair sleeping, but when the wookiee warriors moved in to kill it, it awakened. After a short but vicious fight, only Gaarshhk and his father remained standing, before a barely wounded and extremely angry terentatek. Gaarshhk, angered by the loss of so many friends, charged the beast, roaring louder than his father's shouts to fall back. He was smashed aside by the beast even as his father charged up to help. Just as the beast brought it's claw down on Gaar's father, a team of 30 well-armed Czerka agents, who had been sent out to capture any wookiee they found while simultaneously clearing out the dangerous terentatek that lived too near their camp. Gaar, crumpled in a corner, watched as the team, led by one Daren Meril, poured a massive barrage of blaster bolts onto the beast that had just killed his father and the rest of the raiding party. His life saved by the group, Gaarshhk had little choice but to honor a life debt to Meril. Before leaving, Gaarshhk collected his father's fallen Ryyk blade to use alongside his own.

After following his "savior" back to his camp, Gaar learned that his luck was still nonexistent. Daren was the leader of an extremely effective team of slavers, who had gathered over four dozen of Gaar's species and was preparing to transport them off-planet. Knowing there was little he could do, Gaar watched as Meril and his team put their prospective slaves on a transport ship and, with Gaar following behind, launched into space. Shifting into Hyperspace, the transport rocketed toward Nar Shaddaa. Throughout the trip, Gaar tried to do what he could for the 90+ wookiees in captivity, but all of his efforts were directly negated by the slavers, who tormented both their captive and Gaar, who Daren kept free as a personal bodyguard.

Shortly before exiting hyperspace, Gaarshhk had had enough of their mistreatment of the other wookies. He took up his Ryyk and fought his debtor, killing Daren in his bedchambers before going to the detention cells and freeing every wookiee on board. The wookiees took the ship with little problem, however, few of them could pilot such a vessel, and none knew how to work the hyperdrive. Resigning to land on the planet, Gaar reflected on his assault on the person he was honor-bound to protect. Even for the good cause, Gaarshhk figured he could not return to Kashyyyk on good terms, so when the transport touched down, he took a few supplies and fled from the ship.

Over the course of several years, Gaarshhk has been living on Nar Shaddaa, finding work as an enforcer to various night clubs and for several gang-lords. On any one night, he could stand guard over as many as three separate employers, using his impressive size and the razor-sharp blades hanging at his hips to discourage any undesired activity. Gaarshhk lives in poverty, squatting in a low-profile apartment when he can and sleeping in basements of warehouses and bars when he can't. The years have been hard on him, and his once bright brown hair is darkened and streaked with dirt, which only adds to his imposing appearance. For a wookie, Gaarshhk is huge, standing almost 8 feet in height and weighing around 320 pounds of pure muscle. Despite his aggressive exterior appearance, Gaar's golden eyes display depths of sorrow and regret, both for his lifestyle and his actions. Although quick to anger, Gaarshhk is searching for peace, and he hopes that one day, no matter how hard he must fight to obtain it, he eventually will.

Great backstory! He sounds like a scary guy to fight against, too.
