Outside the Box #2: Darth Vader, Champion of the Sith
Outside the Box #3: Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master
Outside the Box #4: Darth Malak
Outside the Box #5: Anakin Skywalker, Sith Apprentice
Outside the Box #6: Obi-Wan on Boga
Outside the Box #7: Bastila Shan
Outside the Box #8: Corran Horn

The next best thing to an official preview is a new "Outside the Box" (not really).

This week, I thought I'd try to use a character I just acquired that I haven't seen used too much--especially in competitive games. It's one of "those other Vaders", Darth Vader, Champion of the Sith.

Darth Vader, Champion of the Sith
HP: 140
Defense: 22
Attack: +15
Damage: 20
----
Double Attack
Melee Attack
Unique
----
Force 4
Force Grip
Lightsaber Block
Lightsaber Deflect
---
Once per turn, each follower within 6 squares may reroll 1 attack at +4 Attack and +10 Damage. If the result of the rerolled attack is a miss, the attacking character is defeated.

Try to come up with a 100 point squad that could take on Bane and 6 Ugnaughts. A 150 point squad that could take on Black and Blue (LV or JH). And a 200 point squad that could be decent at a tournament.

Here are mine:

-100 points vs. Bane & 6 Ugnaughts-
Vader's Vampires
Darth Vader, Champion of the Sith (50)
Mas Amedda (8)
Chadra-Fan Pickpocket x6 (42)
(100 pts. - 8 activations)

Keep Vader back and either Grip or save his Force points for Blocks. He'll go down in a hurry to Bane. Base Bane with the Chadra-Fan's one at a time, if possible (to avoid a killer Sweep). They can attack at +16 for 30 damage. If you can get 1 attack from each Chadra-Fan and two Grips, you can kill Bane. Try to position the Chadra-Fan's for maximum attacks of opportunity if Bane tries to run straight to Vader. Remember, you can reroll your AoO's too.

-150 points vs. Black & Blue-
Darth Disruptive
Darth Vader, Champion of the Sith (50)
Nym (48)
Imperial Governer Tarkin (22)
Elite Stormtrooper x2 (22)
Mas Amedda (8)
(150 pts. 6 activations)

You're horribly outactivated, but you can try to keep your important pieces inside Nym's Disruptive bubble to protect against the swap. Tarkin gives Vader and Nym both Triple Attack for some decent damage output. The Elites can use Vader's CE to attack at +12 for 30 Damage (if you're feeling lucky).

-200 pts. Tournament Quality-
Piett Plus
Darth Vader, Champion of the Sith (50)
Emperor Palpatine (40)
Admiral Piett (20)
Elite Stormtrooper x7 (77)
Mas Amedda (8)
Stormtrooper (5)
(200 pts. - 12 activations)

A slightly different take on a Piett trooper swarm. Vader boosts the Troopers attacks even further, and Palpatine's rerolls give them a little protection from Vader's wrath if they miss. Piett provides a little bit of Initiative control, if you need it. Vader and Palpatine are both decently difficult to take down, so you could either lead the charge with one or both of them to provide interference, or keep them back to mop up.

Please take the challenge and post your squads! It's not hard--it took me maybe 10-15 minutes to come up with these once I had the character. swShoebox can help. Also cast your vote for the next character for Outside the Box #3. Who would you like to try to make competitive?

I welcome any feedback on the Outside the Box posts or my squads.

These are 2 squads I have had a LOT of success with.

The Jedi Purge 100: http://www.swshoebox.com/displaySquad.c ... &arg=50592

Vaders Apprentice: http://www.swshoebox.com/displaySquad.c ... &arg=54023

Aurra is a beast with Vader. +23 for 40 damage against Jedi!

Vader CotF on his own is a seriously awesome piece. Solid stats with 2 great defensive powers.

Here are my 3 squads I came up with:

100 pt. Beat Bane w/ 6 uggies
Vader, CotS
Piett
Stormiex6

pretty simple outactivate and shoot for 30. I'll probably combine fire some after his activations are down.

150 pt. Beat B&B
Vader, CotS
Piett
Imperial Governor Tarkin
Mas Amedda
Stormiex10

Again, outactivate and then unleash. Keep Tarkin Close to Vader, then if LV goes for Vader, he'll have to roll 12s, then Vader triple attacks and the Stormies fire away.

200 pt. Tourney
Vader CotS
Thrawn
Jabba,CL
Lobot
Mas
Yuzzem
Stormiex5
Bespin Guardx4

Swap in Yuzzem for double claw attack w/ cunning, rend, and vader rr for up to 90 damage. Bespins attack early in the round with cunning, stormies attack late. Another option is no Yuzzem, minus one stormie, and add piett and an uggie for cunning bespins and opportunist Stormies.
