Other than that maybe no deferring on the setup roll.

Eg. You win the roll, you a pick the map, the loser sets up/chooses side, period. He can't defer.

Umm...If I think of more I will post here.

I actually like this idea quite a lot.

:D

I agree with Fool about no differing. We should also have the Initiative rule, activating 1 if you go first, active currently.

I suggest we add Taris Undercity map to all 3 point formats. I also think Echo Base should be removed from all 3 point formats.

I disagree. Not everyone browses the forums and knows about this rule. This rules system will already have to be introduced to those people (some of which will still feel comfortable with DCI) if you want it applied at local games, and I think springing new initiative rules on people before they become official is going to be met with resistance. I just assume wait until the new rulebook is out.

I'm sure your experiences at local events are different than mine, but most of the players I've met locally play "by the book" (or 9 page text document, as the case would be ;)), and I'd wager that these new initiative rules would alienate them from this new system.

Point taken. But what would stop them from being alienated by the changes in Maps, possibly certain rules/abilities?

I agree with Verjal that the new initiative rule should be put into effect.

This is also true, and frankly there's no reasonable arguement for me there. But since this rule is coming into affect anyway, I don't see why we can't wait. Besides, do we have scans of the rulebook (honest question lol)? There may be specifics to the rule that we don't know of yet, and flipping then flopping seems like unecessary trouble. There may be other rule changes once we get to the new rulebook too (like Ion Gun now being against nonliving, for example). Seems wise to me to wait until we have the whole package, expecially since it's not long off.

Dean, you beat me by a hair. I was just coming to say that JC's maps should be considered. I am not sure about all of them, simply because there are some I have not played but a game or two on, but I see them as high consideration.

Other than that issue, we fixed the DCI floor rules just a few months ago, so I don't see any other major change that needs to be instituted for us right now, other than, you pick map, your opponent picks side and sets up. Period.

The main two things I would love to have from our own set that differs from them is this.....

Vassal is an accepted format for miniatures competitive play

JC's maps can be included into the rotation .

I think these 2 things are great & then we need a ranking sustem & that should really be it? Don't you think?

I just thought about something. This is our game, our fun, our money well spent. If we are all playing in a tourney, no matter where, can we all report in, no matter who the "JUDGE" is? That way, Dean can play on Vassal and still report everything to Gamers!

I agree with the other points. JC's map packs should be allowed, Vassal should be allowed for competitive play, and the map/setup roll should be a sure thing.

Extra tidbits will need to be written for Vassal though, such as what to do if someone lags out, when to start the clock and when to justify pausing it, etc.

Also, is this for tournaments only??? Can I meet someone on Vassal and agree to a single GRS game???

That seems like it'd be ripe for abuse. Maybe it'd be fine within our own community, but if it were made totally public we'd only encounter problems with it. I'd say a minimum of four players for fairness reasons.

JC's maps is an issue I am not sure about. Yes, they are great and all that, that isn't my concern. My question here is about execution. While I know he has gotten rid of almost all 300 map packs, I am not sure that is nearly the level of distribution that will work as we grow this.

So I suggest the following. While we should never include the JC maps on a map list, or to be used in Vassal tournaments, we can offer a disclaimer, that they can be used if everyone in the tournament agrees, or something like that. So that way, game stores can use them if they like, without fear of having their results invalidated, but we still use only the "official" maps from WotC that everyone has access to, and that you will have to use to play in DCI events.

I like this solution

it's akin to what we have here in Cincinnati; a player (without the JC Maps) is welcome to challenge and ask that it not be an option when we do a DCI Match

In addition-

I'd like to see the "Floor rules" and Game Rules reflect ALL the Play rules and etiquette
Ex- the floor rules should have ALL the set-up rules and limitations

That does make sense I suppose.

What about maps for Vassal, where they're readily available for all?

So Vassal play will be ranked in the same format as standard, real-life play? My own, limited experience with Vassal is that it slows play down quite a bit; does this mean that: a) there will be no time limit in Vassal play, b) Vassal will be held to the same time limit, c) there will be no time limit in any format, or d) something I'm not seeing?

I think they'd give an extra 20-30 minutes on to the standard time. And Vassal is only as slow as the players, some games I've had fly by while others are like a dead turtle...
