Man does that sound wrong as a thread subject. But really.

What have you done to make BIG work? Like thousands of pts vs thousands of pts?

Myself and repoman over the holiday break are going to have a game of games.

Thanks

Restrictions-
I know that sounds funny-
BUT...

Seriously
the worst "Big battle game" I had, I opted for it. It was like- 350points BOOYaha!

Wow, what a let down... and it took FOREVER to play! we kept getting distracted, losing track of activations, arguing over combined CE rules... etc.... and we didn't even finish

Seriously
set some ground rules
# of pieces-
# of Dupes-
# of "Heros"-
# of Commander effects-
Time limit (Very important, get a kitchen timer running on your play surface)

I like Boris' "Epic" rules-
clean, neat, simple and do-able in 1-1 1/2 hour games...

Last night my father, a friend and I played a 500 point battle. It was alot of fun.
We did several things which helped make the game run smooth. First I bought a battlemat for playing D&D. I bought the biggest one I could find, which is a 2ft by 3ft mat. Then we threw out 3D terrain. If you going to play a battle this big having 3D terrain is a must. We also limited the mounth of uniques to no more than 200points. This helps made sure that
the entire jedi counsel wasnt assaulting and a 500point army of 4 point battle droids. (but that might be a cool senerior).
Then for activations we had each did break their side up into 10 squads or around 50points each. Some squads had like 1 figure other squads had like 10 figures. Then when you did activations you activated 2 squads at a time. This helped the game go faster. Now if a figure helped another though combining fire he couldnt activate when his squad did. It was a blast. We even though in objectives. It was really wicked when Mace Windu got the drop on about 12 battle droids or having multiple vehicles roaming around blasting things. It was over in like two turns. It was really impressive to field like 40-50 figures of all diffrent strengths and weaknesses. It was like a real battle instead of just squad on squad.

The only hard part is remembering all the comander effects.

Craig

WOW! Why didn't I ever think of this?
It sounds really fun. I will have to try this very soon. Did you buy the map online or at you LGS?
Activating a squad at a time... cool.

Here is why I asked. We are playing this out on the 21st to honor Dr. King. (yeah) Any of you Chicago folks that want to come contact Lexx at Gamers to get the info. Should be kinda fast since its all just reb trooper on stormtrooper action - except of course for VADER choking everybody.

I'm confused by the maps photo, but other than that I've done some 400-500 point battles and we typcially added a 3rd activation to each round to speed the game a bit.

i bought a D&D battlematte that is 2 feet by three feet and use 3D terrain from other wargaming and things I have built for star wars. junk piles, storage creates, trees, pipes, command consuls, chairs exc. we even used hills. it was sweet.

this map is wicked though.

sorry miss read the comment, i bought the mat at the local game store, but you can find them online. mine was a miss print and it only cost like $15. all i had to do was trim up the edges.

i have red stain because we thought that dry erase markers would work. what you really need is water based overhead projector markers. oh well.

Well we played. It was wild. Game opened and closed with crits. R2 was a single turn away from the escape pod. Vader based him. Imps won init. The rest was history. So many trooper bodies.....
