Well gang I didn't see a topic on BuffaCon here on Gamers, so here are the details for the two events I'm running in support of LordDragon/Pastorbudwine on Bloo.

Friday night follies: 12/6

Location: Chez Russell
Time: 8pm
100 pt constructed
No map or piece restrictions

Sunday: 12/8
Location: Jester's Cap
Time: High Noon

Event format: Epic 500

Map list: Restricted, plus MoM Command & Simulation decks
Piece restriction: None, BHC will be available.
Activations: Up to a max of sixteen (16)
Commander effects: Limited to four (4)
Gambit: Can only be gained by your Epic piece and will count for 100 points.
No Reinforcements nor Reserves will be allowed.

Hopefully we'll see at strong turnout for BuffaCon and will be able to get this event in on Sunday.

BHC pieces allowed in the format, and your Epic piece scores epic gambit? Cool idea and a nice twist!

An important addendum to Epic gambit that I forgot to include...

First as it pertains to Spy. If MJS, GH ends her turn in gambit, then this will be considered a hostile action and will therefore negate the benefit of the SA. Second TPM SA functions as normal.

Good thing you mentioned that now...we would be seeing a lot of NR squads winning simply by getting first round gambit.

I think TPM's SA should be nerfed too though, by the same principle. It is very easy to set up a deathtrap around TPM, such that anyone who gets close enough to target him will get immediately destroyed. If it is allowed to operate as written, then we'll see a whole lot of Imp squads also win simply by getting first round gambit.

Six of one, half-dozen of the other.

Trev I don't necessarily agree with the Imps winning by getting gambit in R1, as they wouldn't be the only faction able to score gambit. It would however force an immediate response to even out the scorecard. That is why I felt TPM was ok. However I am comfortable with levelling the playing field by having gambit nerf TPM, in order to encourage faction diversity.

The primary objective is to encourge a centerstage "Epic confrontation." :fight:

The whole "untargettable" thing is the problem. If you have to get within 6 of Sidous to damage him then you've got all his handmaidens tearing you up from distance before you can say "pin-cushion."

Mara was by far the worse problem here (just sit her in gambit for 5 rounds while the rest of her squad sits locked in a deathtrap room)...but Sidious isn't too much worse: Park him in gambit and out of LOS, while the rest of your squad (6 Echanis?) sits way in the back, unable to be attacked, and yet able to attack anyone who goes after Sidious. This scenario is marginally more beatable, but it requires a huge risk on the part of the non-Imp player. I think it's better to just nerf the "TPM" ability in the same way that you (wisely) nerfed the "Spy" ability.

I'm all about trying to encourage middle-map-carnage, and I think these rules will totally encourage that...as long as the Epics are not protected by the crazy non-targetting SAs. With 25pt gambit this wouldn't be an issue, since it would take 20 rounds to win! lol But with 100pt gambit, it's a whole new ballgame, and those two SAs are overpowered, IMHO.

While I'm still not convinced that the deathroom scenario plays out quite that way, mainly because a number of variables need to be weighed into that equation.

I do believe in the spirit of unilateral equvilency that we also nerf TPM, whilst in gambit.

Yes, only while in Gambit...he should be safe from shooters when he's not in gambit...just like Mara should retain Spy if she never ends her turn in Gambit.

Don't let me railroad you into this though; ask the other players what they think too. If they don't see a problem with it, then don't worry about it. I just don't want an NPE to result from these (IMHO good) attempts to spur combat.

Debate and discussion don't translate into being "railroaded" in my book. ;-)

If it did, I'd be getting way more action on these boards than in real life. And that might upset my girlfriend. She already thinks I spend too much time here . . .

Me too...I've built so many awesome and fun squads, that I don't know which one I want to play. I might bring 2 or 3 and just decide on the day of the event.

I'm actually by far the least thrilled with my 300pt squad. It's not that I think it's bad, I just don't know if it's fun.

My 500pt Epic I think is awesome, but I know it will piss people off.

100 I just can't come up with anything interesting. But then again it is 100pts.

At this point I won't get a chance to test any of it of course.

Well that's really the thing isn't it. As I see it we should be looking to have fun, since many of our encounters are highly competitive environments (which is fine). However this IMO is a chance to play the absurd, perhaps that's why as I've stated over on Bloo that I'm a "hot mess" about my squads. I reeeally like one 300 build and its either a three pointer for me or for my opp and its fun to the max!

Maybe this is the reality check we need for the weekend, just to have fun?!

One note about the 100, please avoid the illegal maps all others are fair game.

Z-minus 2...

And yes, that's a great point about just keeping it fun...competition is good, but so is good ole' fashioned mayhem and laughter.

You know, I feel like I'm always the one who brings this up. For 500, are we restricted to 4 actual commanders? Or just 4 commander effects? (ie using someone like Revan Redeemed who has 2 CEs means you only get 2 more total)

Which is precisely why I'm bummed about missing this. Nader and my matches always has a laugh and is never short on absurdity. The competition is still there but so is the fun. That last statement is exactly how I would sum up a match with Nader.

I've been working 6-7 days a week, 10 hr days, sometimes longer. The job I'm on was scheduled to be finished on Dec. 5tsh, I was excited that I might make it. Then the news that the job has a new schedule date of Dec. 24th. Bummer that I can't make it, and show some of my new customs, and win the 100 pnt event. Trev, Nad, and whoever else goes. Have fun and merry Christmas.

OK - I have been guilted into using a non-optimal squad for the 300pt game. You all can thank me when you beat me. My other squad would have made you all pull your hair out.

Epic on the other-hand . . . No holds barred. You have been warned.
