Later is actually better. If you went to 9am for you guys, it would be 2am for us... while if you went 2 hours later, to 1pm, we'd have a 6am start. Refer below:

9am Saturday for you, 2am Sunday for us
10am for you, 3am for us
11am you, 4am us
midday you, 5am us
1pm, 6am
2pm, 7am
3pm, 8am
etc.

And just an extra for my Australian brothers, 11am for you is 2am for Tasmania (looking at you, Sashlon!).

Let the math begin.

Isn't Central time 18 hours behind NZ? Unless I'm forgetting daylight savings, etc.

Now that we're closer to the date (9 days away), do we have any specifics regarding start-time?

Questions so I can forward answers on to the NZ crowd:

What time does it start?
When is the first game?
How long are the games?
How long between games?
How many rounds?
How do you register?
When do you need to know contestants by?
Does it cost?
What is the air-speed velocity of a fully unladen swallow?

kudos!

You can't cancel a Regional 3 days beforehand. If it's legal, I'll run it and play in it at the same time. I'll PM my squad to another person who isn't playing in the tourney, and then you guys can all PM your squads to me. I'm not an officially-licensed judge (do we even have them?), but I know the rules well enough to handle pretty much anything that comes up.

If someone else would like to run the tourney then that's fine with me; but if nobody else will, then I will. I've already missed 4 Regionals this season that I could've attended, and I won't miss a 5th.

We'll just keep with the data that Johnny set up to begin with (listed in his previous post). If you have any other questions, then PM me.

Jonny backing out - I am shocked!

Maybe it's for the best, Trevor won't leave right before the finals.

No worries, Johnny; real life happens sometimes. Just like the mail, the tourney must go through, so we will make this work.

--Does someone else want to run it instead of me?
--Does anyone have a problem with me playing and running the tourney at the same time? I'm thinking that, in order to prevent a conflict of interest, I'll find another player at the start of the tourney who can act as judge if something comes up in a game that I'm playing in.

I'm only throwing myself into this because of the late change and the need for somebody to run it. If someone else would rather do it then that's fine with me too. Please speak up; I won't take offense in the least. :)

And yeah Tim, I won't leave before the Finals...because my Epic Ewok Swarm will be playing in the Finals!

I was thinking it's 1:00 pm CST (central standard time...GMT-06:00)

According to earlier calculations, that'll be 6:00 am for you guys in NZ. I hope lots of you guys can make it!

As much as I'd love to do it, but due to the very late start time I won't be able to. I can't take another night off work.

I would love to play a few rounds, but I don't wanna be a person who drops halfway through a tournament (I HATE it when people do that!)

Of course it's not nearly as bad if it's established beforehand.

I could play 2 rounds for sure, 3 if it runs swift.

If you want I could play only if you have an odd number.

Let me know what you think.

I'll be able to make it. So do we send in our squad and map choice via pm to Tint then?

Here is a quick reminder of everything that needs to happen before Saturday at 1:00 pm CST (2:00 pm EST, 6:00 am in NZ):

Thursday or Friday
1. Make sure that Skype and Vassal are operating properly on your computer. It would be best if we all have the new Vassal mod downloaded (swmgamers.com/request.php?21), along with the V-set Vassal Extension.
--> IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE GETTING VASSAL TO WORK, CONTACT ME BEFORE SATURDAY and I'll help you.

2. At least ONE HOUR before the tournament starts, send me a PM that includes the following information:
-Your name
-Your squad, fully written out (Bloomilk is a good tool for this)
-Your map choice, which must be from the Restricted Map List (new and updated, so no Muun or Throne Room or Jedi Temple)
-Your Skype name

Saturday
3. At 12:50 CST on Saturday afternoon (5:50 am in NZ), make sure that you’re logged in to Skype and you’re gathered in the Main Room on Vassal. I’ll announce the first round pairings promptly at 1:00 CST (6:00 in NZ).

How the Tournament will Run
At the start of every new tournament round, everyone will gather in the Main Room on Vassal. I will announce the pairings, and then you and your opponent will make your room. From the moment your pairing is announced, you will have 70 minutes to complete your game.

If this was in real life, I would prefer to have everyone wait until I announce the start-time so that everyone has exactly the same amount of time. But since we’re on Vassal, I think the easiest and simplest way to do it is to start the time immediately, and give some extra time to set up. Since we’ll all be using Skype, there is no reason why the game has to take longer than 60 minutes. We’ll have 10 minutes to reveal squads, load a map, and pull out our pieces. If some people can get set up faster than 10 minutes, then they’ll have a few extra minutes to play.

We will be using a strict 3-2 scoring system: it will be “200 or 2.” No exceptions, UNLESS you have contacted me beforehand during the game because your opponent was slow-playing, in which case I’ll examine each situation as it comes. Once I call time (that is, by saying so in the game chat or via PM to one of the players), those who are still playing can finish their round and then report their results. If you come prepared to play quickly (but not foolishly) and finish your games under the time limit, you'll have a better chance of doing well.

As Johnny described, we'll run as many rounds as we need to produce 1 undefeated player, and then we'll cut to a Top 4 for playoffs, with the 1st place player facing the 4th, and the 2nd place player matching up with the 3rd.

Any questions? Suggestions? I can’t wait for this! It’ll be fun…and I’m so excited that the NZ contingent will be playing! :fight:
