With the V-sets do you have to have the recommended miniuature or can it be something else of the same base size? Also what is the legality of the Epics in tourney play. We had a player use the Vong one and didnt lose a figure three rounds of 200pt play.

It does not have to be the recommended miniature. As long as it has the same base size, it's fine to use. Really, the reason for a RM is to help avoid confusion during the match. As long as it's clear to your opponent which piece is which, you're good to go.

You can play something else as long as it is the same base size. You also have to clearly indicate what mini is what.

For example you can't have three jedi weapons master that all look the same and say this umarked JWM is Ki-Adi-Mundi, Jedi Master, the unmarked JWM is a JWM and this unmarked JWM is Mace Windu LOTLS.

It really hasn't been a big issue here in Lafayette or the other places I have played since the v-sets have came out. You just have to communicate cleary with your opponent and have pieces that cleary something different.

This is why the design team generally tries to go for minis not in the faction for the RMs.

Awsome Sauce, were still getting many miniuatures in the area so matching them is rather hard at times. Heck since I didn't have a boma I used a Mlp toy that fit on a large base as Master Thon.

Epics are NOT legal in normal skirmish play.

You are more the welcome to make customs and use those as well. The two things to keep in mind is the base size and if a character doesn't have a lightsaber ability or a RM with a lightsaber then well, it shouldn't have a lightsaber.

We actually have a few people working on some projects. Lately our thing has also been custom stat cards, that we allow to be legal at the local store level after they go through some really strict playtesting and critiquing.

It is also better if it displays similar weapons: No pistols on a melee character.
