Outside the Box Episode VIII: The Tardy Menace.
Corran Horn is a great piece. There's nothing wrong with his stats, abilities or cost that I can see. He just doesn't really fit into competitive New Republic builds very easily. Since Mara is better than him in just about every way for only 6 points more, Corran doesn't really see play. But everytime I've used him, I've been pretty happy with him. I just don't rely on him to be the main damage dealer in the squad, typically.

The Outside the Box Challenge:
Try to come up with a 100 point squad that could take on Bane and 6 Ugnaughts. A 150 point squad that could take on Black and Blue (LV or JH). And a 200 point squad that could be decent at a tournament. For mine, I'm also trying to make squads that haven't been posted on swshoebox by anyone else yet.
Here are mine:
-100 points vs. Bane & 6 Ugnaughts-
"Horn Wall"
Mara Jade, Jedi [45]
Corran Horn [39]
Garindan [12]
Ugnaught Demolitionist [3]
(99pts. - 4activations)
The idea is to tie up Bane with Corran while Mara shoots (hopefully with Spotter +30). Bane will have to charge Mara eventually. With a lucky initiative, she should be able to take him out. Corran might be able to stun Bane with Jedi Mind Trick (or at least get him to use some Force points).
-150 points vs. Black & Blue-
"NR Commandos"
Corran Horn [39]
Kyle Katarn [31]
Han Solo, Rogue [30]
Jaina Solo [25]
Talon Karrde [24]
(149 pts. 5 activations)
Han Rogue and Talon Karrde help to protect against Master Tactician and swapping. About the only thing Kyle is good at is taking out scrubs. What is it you want to do when you go against B&B? Oh yeah, take out the swap fodder. Kyle and Han can shoot stealthy swappers (Grans), and they have a decent chance of hitting Stormtroopers. Kyle, Corran, and Jaina can potentially deal with Vader when he gets close.
-200 pts. Tournament Quality-
"Forward Deflectors at Max"
Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master [74]
Corran Horn [39]
Han Solo, Rebel Hero [35]
Jaina Solo [25]
Talon Karrde [24]
Ugnaught Demolitionist [3]
(200 pts. - 6 activations)
Luke, Corran, and Jaina all have ways to deal with Ranged attacks (Corran and Jaina have an extra Force point from Luke, too, so they can Absorb Energy/Deflect one extra time). Charge the three of them across the map deflecting as they go (Luke will get ahead with Master Speed and take the most heat). Han is a great shooter, and if he gets close behind your main front, he can give Corran or Jaina a nice damage boost.
Please take the challenge and post your squads! It's all about exercising your squad-building creativity.
What I learned this week:
I never thought about using Kyle to take out B&B swap fodder.
I welcome any feedback on the Outside the Box posts or my squads. I'm also taking suggestions for next time.
