Hey gents, Regional is going to be in London this year, what is your preference for a date? Venue is good with any weekend except Free Comic Book day weekend.

Sundays don't work for me at all.

The only Saturdays that do not work for me are the following:
May 14
May 21
June 4
June 25

Every other Saturday from April-June is open.

I dropped the guys over at The Comic Book Collector a line regarding Sundays as that is their usual day and this is what they said:

CBC wrote:
we could possibly hold it on a Saturday its just most of the players play Heroclix as well and thats when we scedule clix. We can always switch it up for the week of the regionals though just let me know ahead of time.

Looks like Saturday is cool with them Trev.

We need to figure out what date works best with other Regionals nearby, maybe we can attract some Yankee players. The CBC weekly tournaments can get up to 11 players so hopefully we can get a good turn out.

Ok sall all Sundays are out and the noted Saturday's above, plus Free Comic Book Day weekend May 7&8, Mother's day is the May 8th so that is a double no go. UK/Canadian Mother's Day is April 3 so again no go, just to be safe. Easter April 24 again a bit early but still no go. We'll ignore Jewish high holidays, which only leaves Father's Day to watch out for June 19, so scratch the 18th too.

As April is a tad early in the schedule anyway, this leaves possible Saturdays in May and June

May 28 or June 11

Well that isn't much. Flip a coin?

Which is better for you Eric?

Wow, that is restrictive. If it works better for more people, then by all means, play without me. While I'd obviously like to play, I really don't want to cause unnecessary difficulty or strain in scheduling just so that I can be there. If another date works better and will draw more people, then please, go with that other date.

Eric would just beat me in the final again anyway (just like last year), assuming I even make it that far. :)

Thanks for chiming in Eric. I'm leaning toward the earlier date, in case of calamity we would have the later date as a back up.
It remains to be seen if I can twist Josh's arm enough to make the trip.

Are we asking Josh to judge again? If so, then I would have no hesitation to put money into a pot to cover his gas and food for the trip, in addition to whatever we might give him as payment for his services. I think judges deserve to be well-taken-care-of in thanks for the valuable service they provide. Furthermore, Josh did a great job as judge at last year's regional, so we'd be lucky to have him again.

Hey Frost, are you planning on coming down for the MI regional again this year?

We would be honoured to have you Eric, but we are pretty locked on the date now.

Greetings. It certainly is great to see a regional event so close to Buffalo. It seems as if it is getting harder and harder to play SWM in a formal setting around the WNY area. Is the CBC event open to general reg? At least three of us are planning on making the trek to London on the 28th. :vader2:

Thanks.

It seems we've attracted the interest of some Buffalo players planning on making the trip. I'm glad this is shaping up for us.

Amazingly, I might also be in Canada at that time (flying over from Malaysia). Itinerary not confirmed yet though, so very doubtful I could join. Still, it'd be a hoot to be able to say I've played SWM on 4 continents (currently at 3!).

Check out the Yak Shack in the link in the first post. They have SWM tournaments every week (!) at this venue.

I think I'd like to judge again this year, and I'd also like to bring some Armored Cartographers maps for players that don't have them.

However, being car-less means that a trip to London ON is challenging. I would either need to carpool with someone or shell out to take the greyhound which is both expensive and slow. So there are some logistical issues but if we can overcome them definitely count me in!

Here is some info from Naveed a CBC regular for the out of towners attending:

Naveed wrote:
There are drinks and I think chocolate bars available in the store. The bookstore next door also sells pop and chips. There is a Mexican restaurant & coffee shop a couple doors down from CBC. There is a restaurant/bar and a pizza place about half a block away. There is a washroom in the store.

There is a parking lot for a furniture store (Easy Home) just past Rectory street (if heading east) or just before Rectory street (if heading west). This parking lot is free. We park there all the time. The only buildings in the parking lot are the furniture store and a small white building with 3 or 4 stores in it. The parking lot is across from a court building. There is meter parking in front of the store that is relatively cheap but the free parking is not even half a block away.

As for bank machines I think there is an ABM at the bar. Not some much in the way of brand name bank machines close to CBC. There are some on the way into London and further in the core. It all depends what street you are coming into town on.

As for non-game rules, other than no smoking in the store I don't think there is anything in particular. We try not to use inappropriate language when there is younger children around.
