No, Kickstarter doesn't allow us to extend the deadline, as far as I know. I could re-launch the same project with a longer deadline (up to 90 days is their limit), even canceling this one prematurely if needed, but a month really should be enough time to get the word out. Their data shows that longer funding periods don't generally create greater success, since most of the activity happens at the very beginning and very end of the time allotted.

I have some ideas for what to do next if the funding goal isn't met, but none of them are very attractive:

• I could try launching one Deep Vistas poster at a time, but that process would take several extra months, pushing back my planned sci-fi releases. Besides that, much of the allure of this map set is that they are related and interconnected.

• I could try selling PDFs of the maps instead of printed copies.

• I could just shelve them and try again at some future point, half a year or more from now.

I have other options, as well, but really: my business plan for this year relies pretty heavily on having these maps available as soon as possible. If they're not ready to sell by March, I'll need to rethink my release schedule and, indeed, the priority I'm placing on independent poster releases as opposed to contracted work for other publishers.

You're right, none of those are very good options, me thinks.

Would anything stop you from doing 3 seperate funding goals at the same time, one for each double sided map? That way, you wouldnt neccessarily have to wait for so long before launching other things, and even if all three sets of maps dont get fully funded, then at least youll have some of them done.

Possibly, but I know a lot of folks who are wary of committing to more than one project at once. For example, I know that some folks have held off on backing this project because the rewards for Gaming Paper's "Citadel of Pain" Kickstarter project (which I am also involved with) haven't gone out yet. (They're not due to be sent out until February.)

It's also worth noting that I can get a somewhat better deal from my printer if I order all three posters together.

Any thoughts on why the fantasy gamers aren't as eager for maps? It would seem the market is much larger, but perhaps they have a lot more options.

Perhaps it's just something unique about the SWM community and the skirmish game dynamic that makes quality custom maps so popular? Is the "personal touch" of really knowing the SWM crowd (and perhaps more importantly them knowing you) that big of a difference maker?

I thought you'd have real success branching out into something specifically tailored for the fantasy crowd but (unfortunately) the numbers don't seem to be panning out. :(

I've been wondering the same things.

I think my success with sci-fi is largely based on this community's familiarity with my work, and my continued presence on these forums. The fantasy gaming community is much more spread out, and my name recognition with them has diminished since the years that I was better known for my Maps of Mystery in Dungeon than my work for Star Wars miniatures.

I also think I've just been less successful at building enthusiasm for my fantasy work in that community; I'm not as active on their forums, for one thing, but their market is also loaded with options for adventure maps.

A last item of note: the cancellation of the D&D miniatures product line was just officially announced, so folks might not be inclined to invest on those grounds.

I wonder if it has anything to do with style of GM'ing. For instance, I know I really like using the various maps that are available, and I really look forward to these new ones. But, I know some GMs really prefer using a white board, or a blank laminated grid, so they can draw their dungeons out as they go. Some GMs also prefer to build 3-D terrain. So, there are just a lot of options out there for different types of RPG layouts.

I personally like to try and utilize all of them. Like, we recently used all 4 of the Mass Transit maps (worked excellent for an escape encounter, with the PCs moving from one map to the next) and then the Exodus Class Cruiser map over the course of 2 gaming sessions. :) Next gaming session, I'll be including some 3-D type terrain for an encounter. Then after that, will probably use the blank side of Muunilist in order to do some adventuring in a system of caves which I will draw out with a dry-erase marker.

Sounds like some fun gaming, LoboStele!

With only one week left, I've decided to sweeten the deal on my Kickstarter drive: I've added a new funding level where people can get a PDF copy of my D&D adventure and all 6 poster-sized maps that go with it, without buying a bunch of other products (which many of you already have)!

I'm hoping this makes it more appealing to the fantasy gaming community, so please spread the word to any fantasy gamers you know! I'm hoping we can build up enough moment in the last 7 days to get these maps into print.

I'm pleased to announce that this project has passed its funding goal, and the Deep Vistas maps will see print!

Many thanks to all of you who supported the project with pledges and/or by helping to spread the word!

Apologizes for resurrecting such an old thread, but I thought some of you might be interested in knowing that the Deep Vistas poster maps, and printed copies of my adventure "Fall of the Heretic Queen" that was a high-level reward in the Kickstarter Drive, are finally available through my website: http://www.mapsofmastery.com/store.html

There's even a package deal that includes the three posters together at a discounted price.

The adventure is traditional medieval fantasy, but I know some people who have already used the posters in their own sci-fi games. If any of you use them for SW minis, please let me know how they play! I think a couple of them would hold up pretty well in a casual skirmish.

I have tried out the slave pits and that works pretty well. No chance of a copy being made with the SWM lines eh? Haha

Kickstarter backers got access to a PDF version with the SWM terrain lines; I may start selling PDFs of some maps in the future, and if so those would be among the first offered in such a way.
