I am going to post pics of all the maps that have been published Independantly by Myself or Chris, and I am going to open the definitive discussion on who's played what maps and what list they need to go on. please excuse the weird sizing, if a mod has bigger sizes feel free.

LOL Matt. Love the opinions you put in so far. :P

I'd actually vote "No" on the Exodus Class Cruiser myself. It's a really odd-ball map, and in most games I've played on it, devolve into a stand-off shooting match from either side. Maybe that's just me.

The Transport Facility map is more likely to get a vote from me than the Exodus. I like how Transport Facility has a bit of open-ness, sort of like Death Star, so it gives shooter squads some room to move. But it's also got some nice ways for pieces to move up near gambit without getting shot. Death Star typically requires you to move about 14-16 squares in order to get to the opponent, often requiring a set-up round, and an attack round, and many times leaves the pieces completely exposed during that setup round. Transport Facility has a bit less of that, and only requires about 8-10 squares of movement in my experience anyways. So, potentially worth considering there.

The others you've posted up so far I agree with, though I'll have to check back in when you get more posted.

I agree with Lobo on the Exodus Courier ship...it's too much of a shooting match on that map.

I would also say that Yavin IV Sanctuary is far too shooty, even thouh you said Hell Yes to Restricted and Standard. There are almost no safe melee approach lanes, and it's far too open to be considered for the Restricted list...perhaps for the Standard too, though I personally might not mind if it was added to the Standard list.

I agree. In fact, there's one single lane that is completely open from side to side. I've mistakenly set up there when I was first trying out the map, definitely not fun. It's definitely too easy for shooters to sit back and blast the Melee as they come, especially all the crazy long LoS that you can get off.

I tend to disagree on some other points as well, but I find the "no" suggestion on Cargo Docks particularly odd. It was made to be a strong skirmish map and give competitive players what they had been askign for in a competitive map for tournament-level play; this is the first suggestion I've heard that it shouldn't make the restricted list.

Too tired to rate them all now, but I suggest going on a point scale opposed to 'yes', 'hell yes', etc.

Now, if you wanted to make the scale where 'hell yes' = 10 or whatever, thats fine with me :P

What I would like to see would be a committee of 4-5 players, who will each take 4-5 maps and play the hell out of them locally trying to abuse them each in the worst way (or even a committee of 15 - if that many people want to be involved). The committee will then report the results of those games so we can make more informed decisions. One of the major problems with identifying map issues is that they rarely show up by observation alone. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to head this up or I would. Someone else should take this on as their project. Its a great opportunity for some significant community involvement.

Carbondale IL.

Disturbed1 runs our events. I can help, but I haven't been able to play much lately. We have access to most/all the maps (not too sure about MP1 stuff).

for restricted here is what i have come up with playing at my LGS and playing games vs myself

Yes
Rhen var
Theed
Peace
Badlands(its a yes to me so for but needs more testing)

Maybe
Asteroid base, jabba's throne,Loading docks(might be too in closed)
There are a few others like mapmakers first maps.

Starship forge I kind of like on paper but have not played a game on it.

I have not really got out my los and really studied them yet.

when I look for good maps I want maps that can get to the center and does not make you take 2-3 turns getting there. I want melee to be able to find save spots getting to the center.

side note anyway we can get some of these maps on vassal by the end of the year?

You yourself have stated that even large pieces will have a hard time moving on this map. And this is only my opinions on the maps, and I hold no power. feel free to disagree by all means.

and to everyone else feel free to disagree, this is just my initial observations.

Please don't brush off this thread, I put a lot of effort to get all these pics together. If you want to start a committee, thats fine, I'm all for it, but we've needed to get all the customs in one spot so here it is.

Whats the deal with the loading docks? I really think it has some very good potential for hte restricted list. And while I am not the most outspoken in the map world I think it is better balanced than the peaceful city which I think is great but for that it allows quick trips for speeder characters to move from starting point to starting point real fast. When I was looking at the mustifar map up there that was what came to my head, I love the map, but it has one hallway that just zips right down the long side of the map.

But otherwise I think you are spot on with your reviews, however I love the casino map with the building running down the center and hte two alleys on each side, I've had some great games on that map, and it really has a mood/tone that none of the other maps have, it really makes you feel like your in an uncomfortable place and you'd have to be a hero to dare set foot there.

It helped me :D I was able to save all the images to a file, to be emailed out to all committee members. That way we have the same name to the right map

I could've sworn we've all discussed how the docks isn't good for the restricted list. Maybe I'm nuts. And I've gone on record in the past saying that the docks is my all time favorite map from West.
