It's not arbitrary; when players tie with W/L points, they move to a series of tiebreakers that reference your "strength of schedule," or how well your opponents did. You may have beat #2, but apparently something else either threw your tiebreakers down or #4's up.
Yes all true. However, Lobo is not referring to the Swiss tie breaker rankings. I was ranked 2nd going into the single elim part. And that was only because I had lost my last game to Dr. Divot which boosted his ranking above mine. And I was assured a spot in the finals prior to that game as I was the only 6-0 (and we were told we would end after 6). So as round 6 ended, and I had to play 7th meaningless game (other than for seeding) I played it very loosely and was happy to end it early to get some food.
Lobo is using the fact that he lost in the semis to Dr. Divot as a way to say he placed one spot ahead of the guy who lost in the same round to Barzilla.
It has nothing to do with tie breakers. And I was just joking anyway. It was funny that the thread seemed to imply that there was an actual 1-8 ranking determined at Gencon and there was not.
We merely played 7 rounds of Swiss and took the top 8 to single elim. You could go by the SoS and determine ranking, but that is pretty pointless as I pointed out. It honestly was not that important, I was just having fun with lobo and with my squad being in 8th
