How's this for a 150 point Loda/Rieekan squad?

I'm concerned about damage output though. Loda has plenty of survivability, and can dish out 90 damage per round pretty easily. But the rest of the squad doesn't have much to offer. Matt's Top 8 squad at GenCon used Lando DS and had Lobot as well. So that's the main thing I'm missing here, is the option to do 30 damage with a shooter from the back somewhere. Leia, Dodonna, Juno and the Human BG can all mobile and shoot at stuff, but aren't likely to hit too much besides some fodder here and there.

What could be done to improve the damage output without being too light on activations? I looked at a build using Han Smuggler as well, but it loses both the Disruptive AND Override, and a bunch of activations. I think in order to run Smuggler with Rieekan at 150, it has to be more like a Speedy Cannon build.

LOL, I'll have to check it out. ;)

I guess, the squad name really would be better suited to a Melee Squad that's built to be an anti-Rieekan squad. But I found it more ironic this way. :D

The problem with this would be loda would have a huge issue running into any of the decent yobuck counters. I once tied up a loda for 4 rounds with darth tyranus, LotDS. Loda needed 12's to hit and just couldn't get enough hits even with rerolls and stunning him. But dooku, tyranus, scourge, shaak ti etc could all become a huge issue for Loda to overcome. PLus whatever else the squad has. And kyle JBM would be hard aswell. Normally I don't think it would be a big deal, but we are probably going to see a fair amount of squads that atleast include one of those minis i have mentioned.

I still think the right Loda squads are in the top 5 200 squads but not quite strong enough in 150.

Wicket, what about Wicket?

Maybe swap him for Juno, depends if disruptive is more important that Loda hitting consistently..

With Loda's FPs for re-rolling, I've never felt that much like his +13 attack was THAT bad. Yes, it hurts, but Wicket usually only lasts one key round anyways. Juno is necessary to protect your commanders, especially since they will likely be hanging out around the back of the map while Loda and the Mouse Droid run up front.

Here's the more relevant question, is it better than what was possible before?

Loda, Leia, Han Smuggler (I'd link but bloomilk isn't working)

or

Loda Bothan, Lando (or Dash).

Personally, for 150, I think you are wasting points using Reeikan. I think its quite easy to see that Lando/Dash/Han Smuggler will land more damage in a game than Reeikan will prevent by a long shot, and at 150 where the points are tight, I don't see it for Loda. There is very little motivation to double up on ranged defense, at the cost of damage imo.

The Loda army I ran at gencon hit the two key damage numbers needed for that tourny. Loda put out 90 a round and Lando does 30. So that gives you the 90 for Luke ss, or the 120 for Boba bh. When it comes to the damage output of an army I always think about what I can kill within one round of play. I almost think you need to be able to do 120 a round or people will walk all over you.

I agree with Bill about Rieekan. By the time your ready to put Loda in the open you either have a kill lined up, or you have 15 force. So yeah I think its kind of overkill.

Loda is very weak against melee. So the past few sets have kind of pushed him out of play in my eyes. With all the shooters in IE I hope to bring him out again.

Thanks for the input Matt. I honestly haven't played Loda all that much, simply because I was always semi-disappointed with his potential damage. I definitely see what you're saying though about the damage output per round, and being able to kill an opponent's piece in one round. That's why I questioned this squad right from the start in that regard. For the most part just having some fun. I doubt it will end up being top-tier/Gencon competitive, but I could easily run this squad at my LGS and at least annoy the absolute crap out of a couple of our players. :P
