OK, we're playing DD at our venue this week. Only thing is, we've decided that nobody will be allowed to play Boba BH or Bane, since pretty much everybody was running those last time.

So, here are the two that are jumping out at me the most right now instead:

Vader JH
Bossk

Boba Enforcer
Palpatine, Sith Lord

Which would you choose?

Agreed--Vader JH/Bossk is the combo to beat here.

I say palpatine, not really because of the 1's, although that is cool if it happens. I'd rather have a more solid shooter than a better beatstick.

This is the only reason I lean towards the Palps/Boba combo as well. Only thing I'm worried about though is that once Vader and Palps get duking it out with their sabers, Palpatine will bite it hard. Then it will be up to Boba to finish off Vader....no easy task. :( Boba would have to stay on the run moving over pits/cover/rough terrain/etc. in order to hit Vader several times if Palpatine wasn't able to drop him fast enough.

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought in DD, both characters HAD to be in the same faction - that you were not supposed to use fringe.

Of the two choices, I'd take Vader, JH and Bossk.

Absolutely not. You must follow normal squad building rules, but they do not have to be the same faction. Heck, I'm not really even sure off the top of my head what builds would even work if they had to be the same factions.

I would go with Vader JH and Bossk. More pain for the opponent, and it just looks better.

I'd go for Boba/Palpy. Boba is going to do a lot more damage than Bossk and absorb a lot more. Palpy should be able to hold his own and should take out his #2 with Lightning then both can focus on his big gun. And the Betrayal could be so sweet in this format. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice, but I think the Boba/Palpy offers a little more flexibility and advantage.

I agree, that 23 defense and DA with triple attack and JH is just brutal. Bossk is decent backup, too.

Bossk is decent, but Boba's mobile, evade, accurate shot and missles is better, in my opinion. With Palpatine, just have your opponent go first, and hopefully he will move adjacent to palpatine, or within 6, and then use triple, lightsaber assult, or sith lighting to try to get ahead in the damage race.

But then Vader, JH starts laying on 90 damage a turn, let's see palpy beat that beatstick!

It isn't easy to do, but it helps. If you've already damaged Vader with Boba, you stand a chance. Then it is decided by who wins initative for those 2 crucial rounds of attacking with those two beatsticks.

I voted Palps/Boba, though a Vader JH/Dark Trooper Phase III came in 3rd at our last tournament (behind Boba BH and Bane).

Hmm interesting....I hadn't thought about the DTPIII. The only problem I'm seeing with using Boba is that I don't really think he'll get very many hits in on Vader before he closes in. If I shoot at Vader, he'll just use Deflect, and then he gets Dark Armor after that. So, Boba is likely to only do about 20-30 damage before Vader closes in enough to start whacking away at Palpatine. Hopefully, by maneuvering carefully Palpatine would be able to get a Lightning attack off at least once before he is based to Vader. My worry is once Vader and Palps are based against each other. Vader is going to get an almost guaranteed 90 damage per round (he has to roll 1's to miss). On the other hand, Palpatine has to roll 8s to hit Vader at all, and will only do 60 damage if he hits all three AND if Vader misses his block save.

Vader starts with 140 HP, if Boba puts 30 on him, and Palps gets a lighning hit off, then Vader will have 80 left. Granted, that's an average of two rounds of attacks for Palpatine to off him, but I think it would be close, and definitely up to a crucial initiative roll. Of course, I guess I could always use Boba as a meat shield for Palps. Put Boba up front and force Vader to chew through him first, while Palpatine fries Vader with Lightning from behind. :D

At the moment, I'm leaning more towards Boba and Palpatine, but mostly because I expect other people at our venue to run Vader JH.

I completely agree, Vader JH is a crazy beatstick. Palpy just can't touch him.

OK, so yeah, I completely over-estimated Boba Enforcer's usefulness, and vastly under-estimated Vader JH. I played the Boba E/Palp SL combo, and I got smoked by two different Vader JH/Bossk combos. I also lost very narrowly to a CS Jango/Count Dooku squad (which now that I look at...WASN'T LEGAL! Doh!). I did manage to beat a Nihilus/Jango BH squad though, but it was close as well. My opponent did a MASTERFUL job using Sniper to keep pounding away at Palpatine while ignoring Boba. Luckily, I had done enough damage to Jango that by the time Palps bit it, Boba was able to clean up.

Overall for the night though.....Mace Windu and Aurra Sing ended up being the only undefeated combo!
