I hope this is in the right thread for this question...if not I apologise in advance.

Basically, I was wondering about using customs in a DCI game. I know the rule is that the base model has to be what it is, and it can be converted as long as you don't add stuff... but my question is the following:

If you wanted to use, let's say a Custom made Captain Rex, but you didn't want to (understandably) cut up your expensive Rex figure, could you:

Bring along Rex and his card, and your custom (so you have the original fig and aren't trying to pass of a clone trooper as him...)
Ask your opponent if you can use your custom.
He/she says yes and you go ahead.
If anyone asks you can then whack out Rex and not be a cheapskate....

Would this be ok?
This came up when just chatting with a mate about what we'd do if we played in DCI...

(And an aside, how can you become DCI registered in England?/ where can you play too etc, cos we have no idea...)

Cordova,

The new Floor Rules that will be updated in January will expressly deal with this.

The custom requirement will be that you have to have the original pieces card to play a custom of it.

So if you bring the original Rex card and a custom Rex then you would be ok.

As far as you guys playing DCI. Do you play at a Store???? Do they run other DCI games such as MAgic?

If they run Magic then your Store owner can getyou set up rather easy.

If you are playing at a public venue like a library then you need a TO and 4 players.

You can have someone register to become a TO at Wizards DCI website:

http://www.wizards.com/Default.asp?x=dci/welcome

From there you can become a TO and order DCI cards. Once you find your TO or get registered as one get back to me.

I can walk you thru a bunch of the stuff you need to do to get you guys up and running.

Thanks Dean, that's brill.

Well I live in the back of beyond, so there's only 4 of us who play regularly, and one other who dabbles... but we normally play in a games room thing in a sports hall (ironic)

If a few of us were to become TO's could we all then play as well, in match ups when we weren't the named TO?

(As you can tell I have only ever played this game socially, I just wanted to see how to enter the big ol' world of competitive gaming...)

(Is the TO thing the WPN link? - I'll need to ensure I have regualr people before I go ahead I know, but I just thought I'd ask. [Can Vassal count btw?])

Anyhoo, thanks for the promptness Mr. Miller, much appreciated.

Well you need four players.

So if you know someone else (a fifth) that would be willing to be a TO for your group then boom you are good to go.

Yes the WPN link is the thing to use.

IF you notice on the site there is no requirement that the TO be a Star Wars player or even really have a huge understanding of the game (this fits most of the game store owners on earth so dont feel it is necessary). You just need a willing party to do it.

Once you have that you can download the WER (Wizards Event Reporter) That is the program that will help you report you tournaments. I am pretty sure that you can find one person willing to do this for your group. Once you guys get going I promise you it wont take long to grow it.

So you need a TO plus at least 4 other players. Got it.

Who can be the judge? Must it be a non-player like the TO or can it be a player? We always have a non-player as TO and judge.

Thanks.

The TO can serve as the judge which is generally the norm. He can be advised by someone who knows the rules if need be.
