:?: What exactly is meant by "...doesn't take any time..." in the entries for Targeting and Force Phase? Reads a bit weird to me...and seems unnecessary :?

On a side note, a couple folks at our release event last night thought Targeting worked like Programmed Target. I asked Moses for a ruling and he (correctly) ruled that it must be declared on the R4's turn, and required LOS.
This paid off for me as I was able to run over with GMLS at the start of a round and beat the little bugger down before he could zap me

It means it is a 0 time ability, which isn't a game term exactly, but it's a useful way to explain the things that fit under it.

What is means in practice, is that you can move 12 and do it, move 6 attack and do it, attack and move 6 and do it, etc. It works like force stun for example, which is another 0 time ability.

If it said instead, "replaces attacks" then it would have a "time".

 Ah, I get it!

Thanks Bill :)

Yeah, phrasing like that strikes me as more of a way to bridge the gap between the RPG and the Miniatures. Honestly, the more I learn the RPG game, the more I understand how miniatures is designed the way it is. Everything in the RPG falls into a category for what type of action it is: standard, move, swift, reaction, or free (I think that's all of them). So, some of the terminology or rules stuff in the Minis game corresponds to those to some degree. But most of it is very similar. In the RPG, you can give up your standard action on your turn in order to move twice, just like we can in SWMs. You can also give up your move action in the RPG to do a 'full-round action', which would be the same as a Replaces Turn ability, or making multiple attacks, like Double or Triple. It all carries over quite nicely actually.

I love that Targeting is a 0-time ability, over the weekend I used the R4 to open a door and then use Targeting for next activation. Very helpful that way...

And, just to clarify, being a "zero time" ability does not mean that R4 can move 3, target someone, and then continue to move... correct?

Correct.

I'm not sure you can do that. You still have to do Targeting "during the character's turn". It would be similar to Force Stun, like Bill said. Doors are checked at the end of your turn, so I believe you'd have to declare Targeting before that step.

Moore and I talked about it when I thought of doing it and we both thought that would work. Oh well, it didn't really change much since I still missed the attacks, lol.
