 Post subject: Turbolift?

So, I spend most of my real life minis gaming on custom maps and recently have been playing DCI on Vassal. I noticed the new map has Turbolifts and that made me think about the older maps that have them as well. Do they have any purpose other than decorative? Is there anything in the errata or rules that make them functional? I can't find anything obvious.

There are no official rules for Turbolifts. There are plenty for scenarios, though.
