Makashi Style Mastery reads that certain other "syles" can not be used against it. For example, the card reads that Soresu (no delineation between regular Soresu and SSM) cannot be used against this character. What is the meaning of the card text wording for Makashi Style Mastery? Does it mean that you can't attack the character that has MSM, or does it mean that the styles listed cannot be used against the MSM character - no bonuses or Special Abilities against Makashi (presuming that the card was worded when SSM applied both melee and ranged attacks)?

It means that the style (ie, SSM) has no effect against this character (ie, the character with Makashi SM).
In other words, when this Makashi character attacks a SSM character, pretend that SSM is not listed on the defender's card.
In yet other words, Makashi SM could've read this way:
"Enemy characters with Soresu Style lose the benefit of that special ability when being attacked by this character."
