Oh - also, Tiles.

We used some of the train car tiles in our tournament Sunday. 2 of us (out of 4) used the front train car. It is a very good tile. Too good? I don't think so, but close.

You can hide up to 2 fragile pieces (commanders, czerka, etc) in the corner behind 2 closed doors and have them be very safe, while still allowing their special ability/commander effect to reach big guns, blasting away at the other TILE (I'm looking at you Whorm)

Likewise - you can hide from that pesky Zuckuss snare gun with Ganner and . . . (GMLS, Mara, Kyle BM, etc.) and then step out and levitate your beatstick all the way to the other TILE safely.

If the opponent chooses to advance and open your first door, you unleash fury with nasty guns from the back.

Thoughts?

TILE WARS World Championship tournament - @ GenCon - Thursday 8/5/10 - 10pm

BE THERE!!!

Also of note TILE WARS fans - Christopher West's tiles (aka Mapmaker) will be legal this year for the tournament. See the official TILE WARS thread for the legal list of tiles.

Also - strict 45 minute time limits will be enforced. Double loss to both players if not FINISHED in 45 minutes.

------> In addition to this, I will be handing out SLOW PLAY WARNINGS to any player going over 30 minutes in more than one game. This is just to encourage people to finish in under 30 minutes. So - to recap, go over 30 minutes (but less than 45) once - no problem. Happens again, warning. Happens a third time - game loss. I don't expect this to happen - but I want a system in place if it does.

Happy carnage, see you all at GenCon!

Amazing hand crafted bonus prize for 1st place this year! That's all I'll say for now.

*UPDATE*

Upon careful consideration, I have decided to try and implement a way of 3/2 scoring in TILE WARS at GenCon. All games must finish (or double loss ensues) will ALWAYS stay in TILE WARS.

BUT - I think the 3/2 scoring system is the perfect way to encourage games to finish in under 30 minutes.

SO - here's how it will be at GenCon:

Complete win in 30 minutes or less = 3 pt win
Complete win in 31-45 minutes = 2 pt win
Game not complete after 45 minutes = Double loss (0 points for both)

I will still watch carefully for slow play, and will hand out warnings if need be. But I think the positive reinforcement is better than the negative.

This really changes little, since most games finish in 30 minutes anyway - but this way it encourages it even more. [thumbsup]

If it helps anyone i am making something handcrafted and hand painted for the Tile wars Tournament this year. I would love to see as many people in it or more than we have had the past several Years.

Also Here is the Link to the Rebel Storm Tiles on this site http://www.swmgamers.com/page.php?27

And i have Most of The other Tiles saved onto my computer and can send a document of any to anyone who needs them

Point of possible interest: I'll have a new set of map tiles debuting at Gen Con this year, and would be happy to offer some as prize support. :)

Looks like there might be a few future legal TILE WARS tiles in there. Stay tuned

I took a look at those pics, and it looks to me like the tiles are 5x8, rather than 5x7. :o Is that correct? (If not correct, then please disregard what follows, and really this entire post! lol)

If so, we can either ignore them (not a great option, IMHO), or else develop a universal way of adjusting the new tiles to be 5x7 instead...that is, every tile would officially have 1 row of squares which is un-used. I think we'll have to wait until Gencon to make an actual decision about this, but I figured I should bring it up now so that it doesn't come as a surprise.

That is correct; these tiles are 5x8, not 5x7. I hope you can find a way to make them work in Tile Wars, because I couldn't think of a compelling reason to leave off that inch while designing them, compared to the many reasons to include it, some of which are:

• My printer doesn't use more paper for that extra inch, because the tiles still fit 4-up on the same paper he used to print my 5x7 tiles. In other words, that extra inch of paper would just hit the recycling bin if I didn't use it.

• The extra row lets me fit more into each tile and do more interesting things with them, while subsequently letting players get more out of them and build larger structures.

• The 5x8 tiles fit in the same packaging I use for my posters, which is really darned convenient.

Future tile sets will be 5x8 as well. If I ever reprint my first tile set, I might even try to add an inch to each to make them 5x8. The exception is that the cover cards for my posters *may* continue to be 5x7. That's still up in the air...

Post subject:  Re: TILE WARS (An alternate Star Wars Miniatures format)

Another difference to these tiles: Each of them will be double sided. In most cases, the terrain composition will be different on either side. This shouldn't be a problem for Tile Wars, except when the tiles on either side have the same printed name. You may need to add an extra distinguishing term when deciding which tiles are legal; for example, specifying "*Aquatic* Landing Platform I" vs. "*Space* Landing Platform I".

I hope these will be legal for Tile Wars. They're really cool.

Some won't work, I'm sure, but others could. The video on my kickstarter page ( http://kck.st/oX4A6k ) shows all but two of the tiles (and those are two that wouldn't work anyway).

Congratulations to our 2011 TILE WARS World Champion:

Chris Pulis

(aka Darth Jawa here and countrydude82487 on Bloomilk)
:fight:

He went undefeated playing a squad of Thrawn (Mitth'raw'nuruodo), Palpatine on Throne, Arica, Xizor, Joruus C'Baoth, and Grand Moff Tarkin.

Also he and his wife made an amazing TILE WARS battle box for first place, and since he won it he gave it to second place.

Awesome player and it was very nice to both make the box and then give it away when he won it.

GenCon TILE WARS was a lot of fun this year. Thanks to Ted Peck who ran the computer and registration for the event. Everything went off without a hitch.

Stay Tuned for a possible minor rules tweak for TILE WARS, and also let's take a close look at some of Chris West's new tiles to see if any of them can work for TILE WARS. I am open to making the 8 square long tiles have one "dead row". Let me know what you think TILE WARS fans.
