This is actually my friend Gray's idea and all credit to him, but I thought it might be something fun to do on Vassal, too.

Starting in January, after people have had a chance to delve into the V-Set and all its excitement, I will begin a tournament using this format on Vassal (assuming enough people sign up). The format is called "Evolutions."

Here's how it works:
Essentially, you can play as many games as you want each month. The first month, players can only use Rebel Storm figures. In February, Clone Strike will be added to the mix. March will see the addition of Revenge of the Sith, and so on. Point limit for this format is 200 points (yes, even for just Rebel Storm).

Each game played is scored in the following way:

Win = 3 pts.
Loss = 1 pt.
Double-loss = 0 pts.

The following special rules are in effect:

Quote:
Characters with a Force rating may spend a Force point at the start of their turn to designate a door they can see as open for the rest of the round. This power affects doors targeted by Override, and doors affected in this way cannot be targeted by Override for the rest of the round.

This is a Kill Them All format, meaning there is no Gambit. Additionally, character kills are worth 0 points. You either finish the game, or you don't. If five rounds pass without a character making an attack or rolling a save, the game ends in a double loss. Players with three double-losses on their record are disqualified from the league.

Seriously, this is meant to be a fun event. There is no charge to join the league and absolutely nothing at stake. I hope to have some special gifts for people who finish the league, but that is largely up to the people playing.

Sign up if you're interested!

16 months just to get through the WOTC produced sets?!?! This would be my one hang up if I am reading it correctly.

We can adjust the speed depending on the number of players. Ideally everyone will play different opponents at least once and mix up their squads somewhat. One thing that will be different about this from normal tournaments is that you can play different squads with each match. So if something doesn't work in one game, well you can either revise it or scrap it and start over.

I don't see that there's anything wrong with it taking a long time. Many players weren't playing around the Rebel Storm/Clone Strike era. It gives time to figure out all the good squads at the time and play with pieces that you'd never use. Plus, it's just one format. You could always play a game that includes everything, or even jump a couple sets ahead on your own time.

If I ever take the time to get Vassal up and running, that definitely sounds like something I would be interested in going through lol.

I'm intrigued. Personally, I'd be happy if it went faster...maybe a new set every 2 weeks rather than 1/month. The closer we get to Regionals/Gencon, the less people will be playing Evolutions, and the more they'll be preparing for the big events. However, I'll plan to sign up, no matter what format we go with.

Lol. I'll bet I've had it installed for close to a year now and still haven't really learned to use it.

Maybe Seth and I can work through our Vassal noob issues vs each other :P

Sign me up. This is a chance for me to use my whiny farmboy luke squad again. :D

Me and Goat tried something similar to this tournament format and it was a ton of fun. I'm looking forward to January! :)

I'd definitely like to sign up. I might only get in 2-4 games some months, but this is almost exactly what a buddy and I did with the SWCCG, adding a set to the mix each time we played. Not that I hate gambit, but this a a great way to go "old school" and the FP-door idea is pretty cool.

Count me in. Don't know how much time I'll get on Vassal, but I'd like to get more than I currently do. Plus, so far I'm not sure how much the local play group is going to be able to get together.
