The sole version of Darth Vader I have is the "Champion of the Sith" version from CotF. Now when playing him, he seems to be alright, but the "Hit them or You die" Commander Effect can fail at times, and him in melee combat just seems so ...bleh. Plus the last time I played him, he was THRASHED by a JWM. A single one.

Well, I'm looking through the Mini Manager (Thanks Chuck!) and I see the BH version, "Lord Vader", is the most expensive one (point-wise) of the Vaders. As far as melee combat goes, he looks like he can take on anyone, and the CE (which gives followers Advantageous Attack) looks better than the CotF one I have. I think I can get him for a decent price in trade or on evilbay.

My question is, is he worth the 71 points for gameplay? Is he worth trading heavily (and thus, more likely to get from someone)?

Your thoughts and comments!

edit: also, does "Lord vader" represent him from Empire Strikes Back? Thanks!

So in that case, dnemiller, who do you think is the best Vader?

(excluding the one in KotOR, since we don't have complete stats)

I'm butting in to say JH is the best standalone or if you are looking more mid-range then Darth Vader, Imperial Commander when paired with troopers. It depends on the other pieces you have to a great extent. If you have Thrawn then maybe Lord Vader would be your best best due to massive damage that can't be retaliated on.

point for point I'd have to go with Vader Unleashed as the best overall Vader. Good stats, great Force powers and a solid set of abilities. I do love breaking out Lord Vader in 200 point games now and then but I generally run Vader Unleashed with SS since he is still a decent beatstick with all his nice abilities and powers. As far as best period I'd say its pretty neck and neck for me between Lord Vader and Vader Jedi Hunter.

It is a tie between Vader JH, and Lord Vader. Vader JH is sooo well rounded in every way. While Lord Vader just mows everything down, Until a Yoda comes along....Defenses everything.

Dean, if Vader JH went up against Vong, he would go down quick and not be doing anymore then 30 dam a pop to Lah or JHs. While Lord Vader can do 80 Damage killing a JH per turn. MOTF2+Rage+Assault+Twin...
I think Vader JH is more well rounded, while Lord Vader is all out offensive.
But I completely agree that Vader Unleashed is the best Vader for his cost...

That doesn't really address his comment, since Vong are not shooters, but it is a valid point. Vader JH would not be as good as good offensively in this one instance. Lord Vader is also easier for Vong to hit, cant forget that.

It depends on who your fighting. LV would be better against Vong because of his pure damage output and the fact that Block is useless against them(so no loss there). But if your going against a group centered around some good shooter like Boba or Cade, JH has a clear advantage since he can avoid the damage 50% of the time. The Vader's are very situational IMO.

I'd trade off damage potential for a higher attack any day.

You don't do 80 damage if you don't hit. Granted versus Vong you're fine, but if Boba Merc Double/Cunning or even the new Melee Riposting Jedi - Vader, JH at least stands a shot to hit needing what 5's on Tyranus while Lord vader needs 11's.

And if youre assault/raging you have no fprr

I agree....I'd still go with JH over Lord Vader vs the Vong and their usual Boba support.

Yeah I would go with vader JH too. Like everyone said he can defend himself wayyy better than lord vader. and he can still hit for 90 damage at a higher rate of hitting if I'm correct. :vader:

One thing to remember about Vader is that each version has its own niche. Lord Vader has the highest damage out put of any of them, while maintaining Dark Armor and decent stats. Vader JH is the toughest of the lot, while also being the most expensive and having the best attack. Vader CotS is an interesting one... not really sure if he's all that playable right now, though he has several good points to him. Vader Unleashed has some neat gimmicks, but he's heavily force-dependent.

I agree with you, S1AL. With Vader CotS and Vader DJ, they're more for followers attacking with failure not an option whereas Vader IC is more for troopers staying alive longer.
