Alright, new character to discuss. Nomi Sunrider is in unquestionably the worst faction. But she really seems pretty good to me. I predict that post-KotOR she'll be a main figure in competitive OR squads (assuming there are competitive OR squads post-KotOR).

Nomi Sunrider (41)
Hit Points: 100
Defense: 19
Attack: +12
Damage: 20

Special Abilities
  • Unique
  • Melee Attack
  • Double Attack
  • Mettle

Force Powers
  • Force 2
  • Force Renewal 1
  • Battle Meditation
  • Lightsaber Block
  • Lightsaber Deflect
  • Sever Force

Commander Effect
Allies gain Mettle.

---

My Impressions:
  • Her HP, Defense, and Attack are all low for her points.
  • I like to see both Block and Deflect on the same character, especially with Renewal.
  • Battle Meditation is almost always worthless, but it could be useful against a Rebel Leader swarm or something else reliant on combined fire.
  • Mettle is really nice for getting attacks to hit with the relatively poor +12 attack.
  • There aren't a lot of good Force users that can benefit from her CE. The Felcor gets Mettle Parry rerolls, which is nice. And Bastila isn't bad, but the non-Unique OR Jedis seem...lacking.

Re: Sever Force. I wrote this ability off when I first saw it because it replaces turn. I figured because OR doesn't have access to swapping or R2 Astromech or even a Troop Cart, this ability becomes pretty useless.

But then I actually played with and against her, and I realized that Sever Force can be used just as often as Double Attack (although only against Force users), and I don't immediately write off Double Attack. Sooner or later, opposing melee Jedi are going to have to base Nomi, and if she wins init, or survives their attacks, she can get off Sever pretty easily.

I'm curious what other people's experiences with her are. Has anyone even played with/against her?

After reading Tales of the Jedi Omnibus Vol 1&2 over the weekend, I think that her stats are right on with her abilities throughout the stories she was featured in.

I am looking forward to seeing how she'll be brought up to competitive play in the future.

Maybe a SA that helps her control savages and boost their abilities would have been something else to give her.

I look forward to seeing her coupled with Master Thon or Master Arca.

I love her stats. But the faction is what needs help.

(whisper) The next mini you review should be Darth Caedus. :)

LOL, funny. This is our Pojo review for friday. In short, I think she isa fantastic piece that is hurt temporarily by a still forming faction. She has a great CE, but currently the only way to really use it are the Felcor and Bithed Sentinels. I foresee OR jedi coming with evade or parry.

I ditto this; Old Rep really needs a force user with a defence better than 19 and some rank & file that's a little beefier than the Soldier. I've used Nomi once in a squad and I liked the results.

I like her. Mettle is underated, and she will be amazing with Jarael and Draay.

definitely a piece to build a faction around.

On her own she is pretty average though.

Mettle has great potencial as a squad builder going forward. Just give her a force powered shooter with evade and look out.

She's a teaser piece....just like Uliq was. Why they choose to do this with a 4 month gap in her being useful is weird, but what can you do?

I don't think there'll be much parry/evade on OR force users but there'll be block/deflect and that +4 is awesome to have for failed saves

I took her for a spin in a friendly game a few night ago. I don't remember my precise build, but it inolved Maris Brood and Aurra Sing (I don't own a Francor or a Cade BH, who are probably better choices w/ Nomi's CE). I do like her w/ Maris since mettle somewhat compensates for the low attack bonus, but still, I was mostly toying around.

I did get good use out of Battle Meditation, since my buddy ran the Republic Training Sergeant and I nerfed all of his fire support CE's, but I still had a melee-heavy team on the Death Star map, and even though I kept things close, my friend could still out-shoot me and he had CS Yoda to help with the shield saves, and he ended up grinding out a win.

My impression of Nomi is that she's obviously not good enough to mix it up on her own, and while her commander effect has potential, it won't be really great until she can apply it to a force user w/ evade. Also, no one on the thread has talked about Sever Force much, but since it replaces turn and is a within 6, using it against a melee heavy-hitter just means they'll kill you by pummelling you, so it seems like there are very few minis where it would be worth it to have Nomi Sever Force. It would be awesome against Emperor Palpatine, obviously, and probably against any character where force push is a substantial portion of his value (Luke HPU, for instance). But ultimately, it seems like if your goal is to build an anti-Jedi squad, there are much better options out there than Sever Force (Vong, Thrawn bubble, Jedi Hunter, etc).

Force Sever is a very cool ability, I've had it done to be and didn't realize it wasn't a save...Poor Shado. But if she had better support and a use for her CE, she'd be great. Here's to KOTOR...Image

Sever isn't a within 6 ability, it is adjacent target only.

However, I'm thinking about Nomi, Bastila, and Lucien...it's really expensive and very gimmicky, but you can get Draay with a 26 def (20 + 2 Valor + 4 LS Duelist) which is good - just expensive and fragile.

I'm getting the feeling people really think Nomi is crappy. I just would like to say this is quite contrary, she is an amazing piece, and if she was in ANY other faction besides Mandalorian, she'd be amazing and Teir 1.

I used Nomi for the first time (today), and I must say she surprised me! The 19 defense is pretty lacking, but the ability to defend herself sort of makes up for it.

Force Sever is a really game changing ability -that the OR can make work- I don't think you need Thrawn, K3P0, or even a Troop Cart. All you need is the MTB :P
