Cant decide which one to buy to go with my Antares/Imp Knights/Jagged build. Roan would give an even better Gauntlet and Bodyguard with some serious damage output, but Palps gives a force battery. Any advice?

Palps sounds cool with this squad, but if you use him you're relying on your opponent having a melee beatstick and that you're going to need more than 4/2 blocks. Roan Fel gives you a lot more damage potential.

I'd go with Fel.

I'd say Fel is the better option just because of his damage output. Facing Vong Palpy's FPs aren't much good and he can do no damage.

I really wouldn't build a squad around Cortosis Gauntlets. That's a nice bonus if it happens, but it won't be all that often 8)

I like putting the knights together quite a bit....good theme and they work very well together. Go with Roan for now

Roan's synergy and attacks make him a better fit for Draco and the Knights (I think I saw their lounge act at a Holiday Inn in the '70s). Plus It's a Trap can be very handy. The gauntlets are a nice gimmick bonus and a threat against lightsaber beats. It can be enough to cause your opponent to modify his strategy. I just ran this last night (Roan, Draco, Knight, Jagged, 3x Pilots). Not much damage output from the Pilots and I let Jagged get too exposed one round and he got wasted. Was going up against CorSec officer, Kyle and 5x KelDors, so not the best match-up for a mostly melee squad. I think Roan can cause some problems for many builds and it is a fun combination to use. Palpy is better suited for other squads which rely entirely on Force tricks.

But the fact Roan Gives them Synergy and they get Synergy from Roan. It makes for a better squad.

I built a similar squad with Roan Fel, Antares Draco, Imperial Knight, Marasiah Fel and Jagged Fel. It did really well against every melee squad I put against it (including Sith LOTF squads).

But then I played it against a ranged squad that I built, with Cade Skywalker, Han Solo Galactic Hero, Deliah Blue and Jariah Syn. My Imperial squad got completely destroyed. They were really defenseless against ranged attacks (from lack of Lightsaber Deflect).

Am I playing my Imperial squad wrong? The problems would arise when trying to get my melee Imperials within range of the shooters. I would put an Imperial Knight in front to protect my uniques and then try to charge all of my melee 12 squares at a time (but it would take at least two turns of being out in the open before they were in melee range). The problem is Cade Skywalker would kill my Imperial Knight "meat shield" single-handedly in one turn with Double Twin Attacks. Then the other shooters would shoot at everyone else so that by the time they got in melee range, they were almost dead already.

Am I playing melee wrong somehow? Is it common for Roan Fel not be able to use Triple Attack against ranged because they always move away?

play them with Thrawn, Mas, and possibly Nyna and Grans. The Grans have SS and can run up to the beats and then swap in Roan or Antares and pound them. You could also play that squad (Thrawn, Nyna) without Roan and just play a couple Knights with a Weequay Leader and/or a Rodian Hunt Master, when the Knights are swapped in, you can really dish out some damage (potential of 40 a hit) plus Thrawn gives them a +3 boost

While we're on the topic of Emperors, how playable is Palps, Sith Lord? Im thinking of getting him and running him with Imp Governor Tarkin and some Bosses, Sevs, and Bacara

I don't know, he always was on the expensive side.

20 defense for 60-something points? Heck no.

You're pretty much paying for Betrayal, and Execute Order 66. Unless you're going against Clones, don't use him.

Staying with Emperors....Palps, Sith Lord is too expensive. He's not synergistic like Roan and while he can do 60 damage he rarely gets to hang around long enough to get off a triple attack more than once.

Unless you're building an Order 66 SS squad I wouldn't bother with that version of Palpy

I don't know why there is so much dislike for palp SL. Yes, his defence is only 20 for 62 points. Still, he has a lot of HP and a decent attack. Tie that with assualt and his order 66 for some nice little clones he ends up being rather useful. That and the republic SS squads are based solely on order 66 characters it seems...so that headache is removed completly.

Betrayal is nice but it is a long shot. Though, I love taking my opponents boba BH from them ^^

Basically, palp SL is fun, not competitive. Even so, for 200 or higher he can be very useful.
