If you could only carry around 50 different cards or less, which ones would you carry?
(Never mind how many minis, just cards, and assume that you only carry one card for each character, even if the mini is non-unique.)

Here are mine:

1. Grand Admiral Thrawn
2. Darth Vader, Jedi Hunter
3. Raxus Prime Trooper
4. Admiral Piett
5. Storm Commando
6. General Veers
7. General Veers, Hologram
8. Evo Trooper
9. Probe Droid
10. Darth Vader Unleashed
11. Emperor Palpatine

12. Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master
13. Jedi Weapon Master
14. R2, Astromech
15. General Kenobi
16. Queen Amidala
17. General Windu
18. Mas Amedda

19. Han Solo in Stormtrooper Armor
20. Luke and Yoda
21. Luke, Hoth Pilot Unleashed
22. Wookiee Freedom Fighter
23. Yoda of Dagobah
24. Princess Leia, Senator
25. Han Solo, Scoundrel
26. C3P0 and R2
27. Obi Wan, Force Spirit
28. Obi Wan Unleashed

29. Boba Fett Bounty Hunter
30. Aurra Sing
31. Aqualish Assassin
32. Twilek Bodyguard
33. Muun Tactics Broker
34. Lobot
35. Boba Fett, Enforcer
36. Lando Dashing Scoundrel
37. Bith Black Sun Vigo
38. Ugnaught Demolitionist
39. Ugnaught Boss

40. San Hill
41. Bodyguard Droid
42. Battle Droid
43. Aurra Sing, Jedi Hunter

44. Jaina Solo
45. Mara Jade, Jedi
46. Talon Karrde

47. Nom Anor
48. Advance Scout

49. Exar Kun
50. Darth Bane

So there you have it; my 50. What are yours?

I like your list and have come up with one somewhat similar, albeit longer. A few questions though:

Do you mean the only ones you could use in a squad would be on your list, or the 50 most valuable minis, or the 50 you would most likely use to start a squad? Without the grunts in each faction to fill out the ranks and receive commander effects, I can almost get down to 50.

This is a fun idea and very difficult to narrow if you want to play/use all factions as I like to.

Basically the ones you would play with in a squad.

Also, note that I said not to worry about how many minis you carry, only cards. For example, on my list I include the Aqualish Assassin and the Raxus Prime Trooper. Even though they're each only listed once, I carry 5-7 of both in my mini crate.

Okay, so this is a fascinating exercise. Starting from your list and fiddling with it, I ended up making 11 changes. Here's my list, with the logic behind the differences at the bottom:

1. Grand Admiral Thrawn
2. Darth Vader, Jedi Hunter
3. Raxus Prime Trooper
4. Admiral Piett
5. Storm Commando
6. General Veers
7. Evo Trooper
8. Admiral Ozzel
9. Emperor Palpatine

10. Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master
11. Jedi Weapon Master
12. R2, Astromech
13. General Kenobi
14. Yoda
15. General Windu
16. Mas Amedda
17. Shaak Ti, JM
18. Republic Commando Sev
19. Clone Commander Bacara

20. Han Solo in Stormtrooper Armor
21. Luke’s Landspeeder
22. Luke, Hoth Pilot Unleashed
23. Wookiee Freedom Fighter
24. Princess Leia
25. Princess Leia, Senator
26. Han Solo, Scoundrel
27. C3P0 and R2
28. Obi Wan, Force Spirit
29. Yoda of Dagobah
30. Chewbacca, Rebel Hero
31. Rebel Vanguard

32. Boba Fett Bounty Hunter
33. Aurra Sing
34. Aqualish Assassin
35. Boba Fett, Mercenary
36. Muun Tactics Broker
37. Lobot
38. Boba Fett, Enforcer
39. Lando Dashing Scoundrel
40. Bith Black Sun Vigo
41. Ugnaught Demolitionist

42. San Hill
43. Aurra Sing, Jedi Hunter

44. Jaina Solo
45. Mara Jade, Jedi
46. Talon Karrde

47. Yomin Car
48. Nom Anor
49. Advance Scout

50. Darth Bane

Where Boris and I differ:

I dropped:
Probe Droid (if I’ve only got 50 cards, I don’t want two Imp recon pieces, and I’ve already got Piett)
General Veers, Hologram (I don’t have him. If I did, I would include him in my 50 just to make other people jealous)
Darth Vader Unleashed (he’s good, but I like other stuff better)
Queen Amidala (she’s very good, but I’m not taking a ton of non-unique Republic here, and the ones I do have—Sevs and JWM’s—don’t benefit a ton from mobile)
Loda (if I’ve only got 50 cards, I’d rather have the Landspeeder)
Obi-Wan Unleashed (force spirit is nice, but I’d rather get it from Yoda of Dagobah)
Twilek Bodyguard (in a world with push and missiles and flamethrower, bodyguard gets a bit less good)
Ugnaught Boss (he’s good—uggy swarms just aren’t my style)
Bodyguard Droid (they’re good, but you’ve got to take BD Officer to make them really good, and I don’t have room)
Battle Droid (see Bodyguard Droid. If I’ve got only 50 cards, I’m not playing druids)
Exar Kun (he’s awesome, but I don’t have room for the non-uniques I would need to make him good)

I Added:
Ozzel (the Imperial San Hill)
Yoda (amazing commander effect, espec w/ JWM’s, and he has anti-force stuff)
Shaak Ti, JM (can use in two factions, nice mid-level beatstick)
RC Sev (non-unique accurate)
CC Bacara (heavens does he make those Sevs tasty)
Luke’s Landspeeder
Yoda of Dagobah (so many great ways to get synergy out of him)
Chewy RH (bodyguard has been made a bit less valuable in the current meta, but he’s too good to pass up)
Rebel Vanguard (really nice w/ Leia Senator)
Boba Fett, Mercenary (if I could have only one Boba, he’s it)
Yomin Carr (if I’m playing Vong, he’s coming along)

Not sure I'm right about any of this--just one guy's opinion.

Yoda of Dagobah is on my list. (No, you didn't see my wave my hand. :P)

I hope I never get to the point where I can only have 50. Here's my list for today (who knows how it might change tomorrow). I took out a couple factions that I only had one or two figures in favor of some troopers to finish off my squads in the other factions.

Rebel
1. Chewbacca, Rebel Hero
2. Han Solo, Scoundrel
3. Luke Skywalker and Yoda
4. Luke Skywalker, Hero of Yavin
5. Master Kota
6. Princess Leia
7. R2-D2
8. Rebel Pilot
9. Rebel Snowspeeder
10. Wedge Antilles
11. Wookiee Freedom Fighter
12. Yoda of Dagobah
(I just like using all the iconic Rebels and the pilots. My favorite faction which made it hard to get down to so few.)
Imperial
13. At-St
14. Blizzard Scout 1
15. Darth Vader, Imperial Commander
16. Darth Vader, Unleashed
17. Death Star Gunner
18. Heavy Stormtrooper
19. Imperial Officer
20. Stormtrooper
(I don't use them often, but have been using these pieces the most when I do put together an Imperial squad. I know, no Thrawn - I just never got into using him much)
Republic
21. Clone Trooper
22. General Kenobi
23. Jedi Weapons Master
24. Mas Amedda
25. Queen Amidala
26. Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master
27. Quinlan Vos, Infiltrator
28. R2-D2, Astromech Droid
29. Shaak Ti, Jedi Master
30. Yoda
(Probably my second favorite faction although I am still trying to work out a balance I like for melee and shooters to fit my style of play.)
Separatists
31. Aurra Sing, Jedi Hunter
32. Battle Droid
33. Battle Droid Officer
34. Crab Droid
35. Destroyer Droid
36. Super Battle Droid
37. Wat Tambor
(I used to run droids all the time, but have been waiting for another big boost for the Seps.)
Sith
38. Darth Bane
39. Sith Assault Droid
(Haven't used the other Darths much.)
Fringe
40. 4-LOM, Bounty Hunter
41. Aurra Sing
42. Bith Black Sun Vigo
43. Boba Fett
44. Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter
45. Felucian Warrior on Rancor
46. Gundark
47. Lando Calrissian, Dashing Scoundrel
48. Nexu
49. Ugnaught Demolitionist
50. Wicket
(General purpose uniques and some filler. Nexus and Gundarks can just be annoying.)

Considering I've fairly recently gone through a real-world situation where I had to do something like this (this was before TFU... and it certainly wasn't only 50, but it was still hard!), I can pretty much just edit the list of what I did take, adjusting for TFU:

1. Grand Admiral Thrawn
2. Darth Vader, Jedi Hunter
3. Raxus Prime Trooper
4. Admiral Piett
5. Storm Commando
6. Admiral Ozzel
7. General Veers, Hologram
8. Evo Trooper
9. Emperor Palpatine

10. General Windu
11. Mas Amedda
12. Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master
13. Jedi Weapon Master
14. R2, Astromech
15. Yoda

16. Obi Wan, Force Spirit
17. Chewbacca, Rebel Hero
18. Golan Arms DF.9 Anti-Infantry Battery
19. Han Solo in Stormtrooper Armor
20. Luke and Yoda
21. Luke, Hoth Pilot Unleashed
22. Wookiee Freedom Fighter
23. Yoda of Dagobah
24. Princess Leia
25. Han Solo, Scoundrel
26. C3P0 and R2

27. Ugnaught Boss
28. Gran Raider
29. Boba Fett Bounty Hunter
30. Aurra Sing
31. Aqualish Assassin
32. Garindan
33. Jango Fett, Bounty Hunter
34. Lobot
35. Boba Fett, Mercenary
36. Lando Dashing Scoundrel
37. Muun Tactics Broker
38. Wicket
39. Ugnaught Demolitionist
40. Dark Hellion Marauder on Swoop

41. San Hill
42. Bodyguard Droid
43. Battle Droid
44. Aurra Sing, Jedi Hunter

45. Jaina Solo
46. Mara Jade, Jedi

47. Nom Anor
48. Advance Scout

49. Exar Kun
50. Darth Bane

What I added to Boris's list:

Admiral Ozzel: The Imperial San Hill, but Ozzel/troopers is it's own squad, and all the other pieces are there.
Yoda: I do still love this piece.
Chewbacca, Rebel Hero: Always handy if you have the points.
Golan Arms DF.9 Anti-Infantry Battery: My current favourite piece in the game.
Princess Leia: I think Boris must have simply forgotten to add her :)
Gran Raider: More options for the Nom Bombs component, 4pt gambit grabbers with Stealth are always nice.
Garindan: One of my favourite Lobot buys if I can afford the activations, and there's nothing else I need at the moment
Jango Fett, Bounty Hunter: I just love seeing this piece on the board.
Boba Fett, Mercenary: A very different Boba over BH, I do like this piece.
Wicket: Another favourite Lobot buy.
Dark Hellion Marauder on Swoop: It's what makes Exar Kun an interesting option. I'd have dropped Exar if I couldn't fit this.

What I dropped from Boris's list:

General Veers: Good, but not *essential*. Veers didn't deserve 2 slots.
Probe Droid: Again, good but not essential.
Darth Vader, Unleashed: I was never much of a fan, but I did want to see a second Vader up there.
General Kenobi: Not much of a fan.
Queen Amidala: Only benefits 1 piece, not worth it in my 50.
Princess Leia, Senator: Most squads would sooner take Princess Leia these days.
Obi Wan Unleashed: Eh...
Twi'lek Bodyguard: OK, I would have liked this to stay, but it's only 50.
Boba Fett, Enforcer: Same as above, and I already have 2 Bobas!
Bith Black Sun Vigo: Great piece, great option to have, but I often find myself taking Lando DS over the Bith these days
Talon Karrde: Another great piece, but since the NR has the MTB engine available in my 50 the Recon isn't so important. Disruptivr would have been nice.
