So I was wondering how does everyone feel about the expanded universe being crushed in one motion? Are you upset? Do you feel like purchasing ten years of various expanded universe products, over 100 books and countless minis was wasted? I myself am rather miffed and at my age really give a stang if I see another badly produced Star Wars movie which ruins my perfect picture in my head of characters like Thrawn, Mara Jade, Revan, Kreia, Corran Horn and the countless names from there. I feel like Barney in how I met your mother when he talks about the Ewok line of loving the Ewoks or hating them. I say that today I am in the category of hating Disney and I hereby declare that all universe will now be B.D. - BEFORE DISNEY Screw P.D. - post Disney (no they get no after just post) Maybe you feel the same as me or maybe you dont care. But I for one expected a little better from Lucas. We made him rich the least he could have done was protect our investment by telling them you can have the license but you cannot screw with the expanded universe. A Thrawn trilogy movie from Disney would have been awesome.... Or just write something new like you are doing right now but don't screw with the EU Sorry I guess I am ending my rant now I have not had a Star Wars rant in a couple of years and though I Would get it off my chest. |

Completely agree, especially because there's no reason to mess with it. Put the movies post-Fate of the Jedi and don't even mention anything from the EU. |

Like they screwed up the Avengers? Fan boys will be fan boys. Yet a whole generation like my son 4 at the moment will not know any different. Sure I could not allow him to view any of the post disney stuff, but it will be like porn and cussing. Somebody on the school bus will have it and there you go. All my efforts down the can. |

I'm at least willing to hear what they are planning before I start boycotting, although I think it would be stupid of them to throw out all EU that already exists. |

Whatever comes, it can't be worse than JarJar, so I'm not worried. I would really love it if they did the Thrawn series though; those are the best Star Wars books ever written, and they're entirely deserving of a movie series. |

Zahn has said he has not been approached at all about the Thrawn series. I would agree I would love to see them in the movies. However you would have to recast Luke, Leia...well pretty much everyone since it takes place only a few years after ROTJ. Then we would ahve to listen people complain about the casting. |

My gut tells me they will go either pre Legacy (books) or post Fate and therefore won't mess with the drama called re-cast. |

Disney is the best thing to happen to SW in years. Its basically secured the franchise for another few generations. Honestly, a stang load of EU stuff got screwed over by new content anyway. So long as there are jedi V sith, lightsabers and decent films i will be happy. |

I'm at the point, where I don't care about continuity. Why should the new movies be beholden to the trainwreck that is Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi (which I could not finish). The EU is a mixed bag. Why should new stories be beholden to stuff that was written before, some of it being absolute crap. Some of it is good, sure. But Disney will not take those stories from you. I don't see why being the same continuity is such a big deal. It obviously wasn't a big deal to Lucas. Hell, I loved the Darth Maul stuff on the Clone Wars. And it isn't like I consider all of it as canon in my head already. Nope, TFU and IG-DSII did not happen. Enjoy the stories you have. No one will take them from you. And hope for the future. I say bring on Luke's Daughter. I'm excited. The creative team is remarkable, and I look forward to Dec 2015 (who needs May). And I do have to laugh about Lucas protecting the EU. You are aware that he did the treatments for the new trilogy. Anyone want to bet on how much of the EU he was willing to protect? |

I'm less nervous nervous about Disney screwing it up than I am about Abrams screwing it up. I never really thought his movies were great or awesome but now he goes from the science/techy centered Star Trek to the Fantasy centered Star Wars. As mentioned by Deri, give me lightsabers and Sith/Jedi in decent movies like most of the Marvel films that Disney has done and I'm perfectly fine with it. Also I don't want to jinx it but like Trevor stated, its not like we can get worse than Jar Jar. |

Even those mocking the 'ponderous' EU speak highly of Zahn's work. I would be satisfied if they left the Thrawn trilogy intact, whether they referenced it or not. Man, even just using the kids names and creating new adventures for them would be okay at this point. On the other hand, the cartoon series ended up being a great source of comic material, what with spider Maul and such. |

I don't Mind Abrams Work and i think he will do alright as long as he keeps the 2 Genres Separate (Star wars/Star Trek). Honestly i don't think the Movie will be bad all in all. My Biggest Concern is what they are doing with the books. For a long time i engulfed myself in reading these books, and yes not every story would affect a lot if cut, but there are quite a few that have could be Completely Detrimental. The Thrawn books have been one of the most iconic to me, and for that matter the Jedi Academy Trilogy. T Here are a few here or there of the others that i associate with being a core set of books, but if they were to make these non-cannon it would shake up the EU so much i think they would loose a lot of fans. You know the more I think about the likelihood of the Star Wars Expanded Universe Cannon material being discarded in favor of new stories for new films the less I care. I understand the push back from fans who don't want the EU as they know it to be erased. But at the same time all of those books, comics, video games, etc are still going to exist. I imagine we are going to end up with handy little terms such as Old EU and New EU to describe the different story lines. The key is how well the new films are done and frankly after seeing what Lucas did with the Prequel Trilogy there is plenty of room to take the new films to heights we haven't seen in a long long time. Even if Episode 7 checks in as the 3rd best Star Wars film of all time we could be doing just fine. If they knock this thing out of the park I will gladly refer to old and new EU even if it's just us Star Wars fan boys who get it. |

"Disney is going to ruin [your] minis"? No they aren't. Are they going to come into your house and melt them all down, then burn all your books? No, they aren't. They aren't going to "ruin" anything. If you really enjoy the stories, you are allowed to continue enjoying them. Maybe you won't like the new stuff as much because it doesn't involve the old stuff, but in no way does that change the old stuff. You're not going to forget the Heir to the Empire trilogy if the new movies and books don't every mention Thrawn. If the new stuff is good, then it's good, and hating on it because it doesn't recognize the old stuff is just immature fanboyism. |

Disney is going to ruin Star Wars just like they did Marvel. I mean have you seen any of those Marvel movies?.....wait, those movies were all good. Disney isn't going to ruin anything. Sure the EU will probably be changed or not exist but is that really that big of a deal? The EU was always mainly fanfiction anyway. |

I'm definitely in the, "wait and see" camp. No need to light torches before the fact, everything anyone has heard so far is just rumors. I know I've been annoyed in the past when they've crapped all over something GOOD in the EU (example - what Clone Wars did to Karen Travis's Mandalorians). I'm sure there will be little annoyances from the uber fanboy inside me, but in the end all I hope for is entertaining movies. With everything bad said about JJ Abrams, recognize that George Lucas is one of the worst directors in the history of cinema. As much as I love Star Wars, can we really get worse than Jar-Jar and Midicholorians? Sure us nerds love to argue over the little details and inconsistencies, and we will no matter what. I'm still stoked about new Star Wars movies hitting the big screen. |
