The only thing I'd be concerned about with this route is sufficiently protecting the maps. If you put them between cardboard or something, that might work fine, but I know our mail deliverer has a tendency to just fold up envelopes like that and stuff them into our mailbox. It'd have to be a pretty stiff envelope with "DO NOT BEND" written all over it.

Plus, there's really no need to mail it by Priority, so you might check into how much it costs to buy envelopes like that in bulk (like, 50 at a time). Overall it might be cheaper to buy envelopes and mail things by Parcel Post, at least for customers in the US.

Hmm... I've never had a problem with mail people bending stuff up, but I can see how that would happen. But, a piece of cardboard and "Do Not Bend" written on both sides would be sufficient; like you said.

As for buying bulk envelopes, that can get expensive. I sometimes use padded envelopes from Staples and they'll run about a dollar a piece for the size that we're talking. If the weight is less than 16 oz... (i think that's the magic number) they could be shipped First Class for less than $3, pretty much anywhere in the US. Three maps and a piece of cardboard may break that weight limit... something that the shipper would have to figure after he has everything together. Parcel would be more expensive, it's usually only a few cents to a dollar cheaper than Priority.
Sooo ... free flat rate Priority envelopes and a piece of a carboard box would really be the way to go I think. Even the mailing labels are free.

Sort of free.. we pay for them with taxes.

That still doesn't always do it. Back when Wizards was still printing The Duelist sometimes they'd include one of the oversized Magic Cards with the magezine and they'd print Do NOT Bend in big bold letters all over the thing and i still get it folded and crammed into the mailbox.

Hello, and happy belated christmas!

Some bad news in the map pack update. It looks like the printing website I've been wanting to use may be an old or bogus site. I've been trying for a week to call them, with no luch, Ive sent them several emails, with no reply, and I've tried a live chat with no luck.

This is going to put a big hinderance on the production of the maps, as well possible change to original concept.

I'm actively looking for a new printer who can do what I want. If not I'll make adjustments, and keep you all updated.

with that Said, THE MAP PACK IS GOING FORWARD, But I have to do some more detective work.

Here is my open call to arms,If anyone can find me a printing service that can do the following,I will give that person a free map pack. They will also recieve a few maps from my private reserve if they'd like.

These are the requirements

22x34 inches, double sided posters, with different images on each side, 80# glossy cover paper, folded into 8ths or 4ths. I prefer aqueous coating but it nots required.

and obviously as cheap as possible. :D

If anyone can help me I will be indebted to you!

Who have you talked to?

Printrunner.com?
Printindustry.com?
Uprinting.com?

Those are a ferw of the printers that come up in google so I assume you have talked to them.

I have a buddy whose business is getting things like shirts, hats, pens, knives, printing, etc with company logos. I will see what kind of pricing he can get. Should see him Sunday and let you know.

wow, those are three websites i havent seen! Dude your officially vice president of JC custom maps. Thanks I think there going to be a big help. but nontheless talk to your friend as well.

OK heres the official, no changes from this point line up for the map pack.

Map 1. Felucia/Echo Base (In production, with an estimated completion time of 6 weeks, Late February timeframe)

Map 2. Dantooine/Theed (Competed)

Map 3. Taris/Dxun (Completed)

Once the printing has been established, I will make the officail release date, and order thread.

I know its premature to talk about map pack 2, but I can tell you That a giant rhen Var map is in the works. And my hope is to make it compatable with the hoth maps, and hopefully some of the custom hoth maps as well, but thats all very tentative right now.

Just wanted to give you all an update on what’s going on, mostly good, but some big bad.

The Big bad, I received my official confirmation last week from the Navy that I was getting discharged involuntarily. Honorably, but nonetheless I’m being put out to pasture.

So with a little less than a month to figure out where my next paychecks are gong to come from, and when the best time to use all the college money I’ve saved up, I’ve had to cut my map making time to about 3 hours a week. So production on the map pack is going to be delayed I think about 6 weeks.

But the biggest problem that this is going to cause is my schedule has just gone from set, to all over the place. And I don’t know If GenCon is going to be in the works for me.

So basically the bottom line is the map pack will be available for sale in March/April, it may be available at GenCon, but I might not be there to sell them. If that happens I hope someone would like to carry the torch for me.

The ultimate goal of this project was to make new maps, and get them out to those who couldn’t afford Cafepress.

I have a code I live by, and most of it involves not letting large groups eat up the little guy. What’s happening to me in the Navy, What goes on with Wizards, what goes on in Record companies and Cell Phone providers can serve as a metaphor for what’s wrong with America today. Nobody cares about quality, nobody cares about people, and nobody cares about each other.

My map project in a way is a return to old school values. I’m good at something, and I’m going to find a way to share it with the world at the lowest cost possible.

With that Rant done, the bottom line is Only God or I will stop this project from happening.

OK now for the good news, I’ve settled with a professional print company, and they are willing to do the overall project (300 map packs) for less than 3000 Dollars, That’s 10 Dollars a unit, Which means the money I save on printing can go into the pot for an even better second map pack (maybe 8 maps?).

The New Dantooine map is going to get fixed……………Again. I hate those flowers, and I don’t like the little trees on the right hand side.

I got a whole lot done on Felucia this week, and it’s shaping up to be the “Marquee Map” of this collection. I’ll have a preview up soon.

As soon as I finish theses last 2 Maps (Felucia, And Echo Base), I’ll begin preorders, let’s say around mid February.

Please make Paypal an option for payment if it's possible.
I hope you'll ship overseas. :)

Question.

1. Are you going to Gencon?

2. Are You interested in a Custom Map 6 Pack?

3. What do you think a fair price is? Keep in mind this is not for profit, but to cover the cost of printing, and shipping and transport.

4. Is this a good idea or a bad idea? Cpreksta mentioned he was thinking about selling his maps at GenCon. What are the legalites involved?

I look forward to meeting alot of you nontheless!

1. Hadn't planned on going, but I'm pretty spontaneous.
2. Most defiantly!
3. I would pay 60 for 6 great maps; I like your proposed price better though.
4. Good Idea? It’s a great Idea.
This thread is the one that encouraged me to sign up with these boards. I love your maps.

Well, I'd love to have a job like that where I can be creative, Hell, I'd even design maps for other games as well.

It take me about 40 hours to do one map, and working a 40 hour a week job would mean 1 Map a week!!

Of course crap in one hand and dream in the other and see which one fills up first.

Besides honestly, my skills aren't quite there...yet. I think maybe 3-4 more maps and I'll be up to par.

BUt It makes me feel good when you guys tell me I ought to be working for WOTC.

If anyone can hook me up I'd jump at it.

Look at all the maps WotC has turned out for SWM and how many of them are actually good...not many.

I wouldn't say that. Good for competitive play, sure, there are some terrible ones. Look awesome and perfectly functional for scenario or fun play, most of the "bad" maps are just fine.

Hey, that's my theory on dating.

Really?

That's my dating theory too!

PS: I'd be interested in the maps. I don't think I've said that before.

haha!

I don't think I'll be going to Gen Con, but I would pay for a map pack, plus shipping costs. Especially if it's a cheaper option than getting it done through Cafepress.

I agree with the Paypal suggestions. An easy way to get payment out of the way.
