I posted this topic on bloomilk also, but in case not all swmgamers use bloomilk, i thought it'd be useful to have this discussion here also. So....

With the new Admiral Daala, there are some really good squads floating around out there. The old Admiral Piet can give the opportunist to troopers, Daala gives the movement breaker and if you want init control, look no further than the imperial pieces that were supposed to break Thrawns hold on the Imperial top squads, those being Disra, Flim, and Grodin Tierces clone. So has Admiral Daala finally done it? Are the Thrawns finally not auto-includes in every competitive squad?

Can the F-T-D combo be effective? Yes, maybe at a Tier 2 kind of level. But Thrawn is still the King of the Empire. Certainly at 200pts or above, if not at 150. At 100...well, who cares about 100? lol

I think that Daala has some very interesting possibilities. Maybe not quite tier one, but I bet you see me with some kind of squad like that at a regional near you.

In the right meta, an Imperial squad with Daala but without Thrawn can absolutely do well, certainly well enough to win a regional. If future V-sets create one or two more pieces to reinforce it, Imperials could have very legitimate tier 1 squads without Thrawn.
