Ya really Caedus For the win, and i cant help quoting mara on this one.....well twice..

"Does he know who he looks like?"
―Mara Jade, after seeing Jacen dressed in black, with a black cape, being escorted by twenty GAG troopers

Jacen Solo, the boy who wants to be Vader when he grows up."
―Boba Fett

It's not so much that Jacen sucks, it's that there really isn't a Leia that brings that much to the NR at the moment. If Princess Leia were to grant extra attacks to Mara Jade or something, Jacen would see use.

What about using Garm and bringing in a Troop Cart, then put Jacen on it. :D

That's a good idea, but it doesn't make him any more playable. He gets sniped out in a round or two. There goes your force unleashing. Kota does the same thing, only it's much better and easier to use.

Too bad you can't bring in Ghost Obi with his reinforcements, that would be a fun squad.

Yeah they should errata Leia's CE to read:

At the end of this character's turn, 1 follower of this character's faction within 6 squares of this character...

Most newer players would look at it and think, Huh? But eventually the meaning would be clear.

Just more evidence that WotC isn't balancing sets against the overall game.

people try and do too much with Jacen early.

All he does is draw fire if you bring him out early. Treat him like Mas until you lose a force user (Mara/jaina/han/adept etc etc ). Usually i end up losing Jaina and then Jacen runs forward totally out of LOS until his threat causes your opponent to alter strategies.

It really is the only way to play him because he is such a threat and fairly easy to kill.

Using this strategy i've had several games where Jacen is the last man standing. Mara Jaina do the majority of dmg and Jacen plays mop up.

And Jacen

At least you killed the same number of enemies and your figs.

I like to use Jacen and Jaina together and not even worry about Unleash the Force (although, when I see the opportunity, I use it). With Synergy, the two of them together are pretty good. Likely Jacen will go down first, because everyone's scared of him, but Jaina's really the bigger threat when you're just attacking because of Cunning Attack. Jacen draws fire from Jaina (which is a good thing), then she gets to get some big attacks in (hopefully). By the time your opponent finishes with both of them, Mara's in position to make the kill.

I went into a 200 point tournament with this plan, but in 3 of the games, Jacen wasn't the first Jedi to die, so I was able to get off Unleash the Force. Unfortunately, in one of the games (against Engineer), I tried to run Jaina away from the blast before I set it off and she got a crit AoO that killed her and the Force Empathic damage killed Jacen too. :(

I remember that move. It really would have hurt my squad to take the damage (or burn the FP on RR).

That sucks! Although it's also funny at the same time. Reminds me of when Anakin or Asajj bite the dust but take someone down with them using Riposte as a parting shot.

I like to run Jacen and Jaina together as well. Their synergy really helps. Most of my friends tend to go after Jacen first too, but that's not always so bad. Especially since Jacen loses HP with each Force User that goes down.

I've been able to Unleash the Force a couple of times. The second time I didn't really need to as I had the game in the bag, but it was just fun to do so.

I've used the classic squad with Jacen, Jaina, Han RH, either Leia Senator or Leia RH, and then Talon Karrde before. Got lucky one game with back-to-back 11's for init at the beginning of a game. That one was brutal as my first move was to bring in Dr. Evazan, who promptly used Homicidal Surgery on Leia, and she failed the save. I didn't even have to Unleash the Force that game. Used Jaina as a screen for Jacen until he got in close. The two of them mopped up together. Granted, this was right after BH released, so I hate to think how that game would've gone if I had Mara in there as well.

Jacen can be decent, he's just very situational. It's a real shame. Hopefully we'll get a true representation of him in a few months.

Well my problem is i would never get jacen in position everyone here Loves THERE BOBA BH! and there oh so annoying force push! even to keep him out of los trapping boba is near to impossible if he is played right.

On Another Note, Darth Caedus SHOULD be just as strong as the grandmaster luke so it will be interesting to see if they go according to the books for once or if once more they just give useless ability's to EU chars. (ok thrawn....dose not count)

Okay, so I'm the idiot who just got ripped apart by Jacen Solo today. Basically, I was running a mobile shooter team (Boba BH, Han Scoundrel, Dashing Lando) against a ST Armor Han NR team (w/ the usual suspects--Mara, Talon, etc).

Basically, my opponent did a very nice job of keeping Jacen where I couldn't see him, while sending Corran Horn on a kamikaze mission where I had to deal with him (which is a clever use for a piece with that much HP).

Long story short, he maneuvered himself into a chance to do an Unleash on Chewy RH and a Rebel Tauntaun, and I assumed he would take the low-hanging fruit. As a result, I fell asleep at the wheel a little bit on getting proper spacing on the figures further back on the map, since I assumed he would not go after them since doing so would involve taking AOO's and waiting an extra round (and thus risking losing initiative and getting Jacen killed). What he did instead was go running right past Chewy and the Tauntaun, taking AOO's galore, gambling big-time on initiative, winning initiative, and then killing:

Senator Leia, R2, Mon Cal Tech specialist, Chewy, and also dropping 30 on Dashing Lando and 60 on Boba BH. I fought the good fight for a while after that, but eventually Mara finished the mop-up job.

All this is to say, if you maneuver well, if you take a big risk on initiative, and if you have an opponent who is smart enough to know Jacen sucks but not smart enough to realize that you nevertheless ought to kill him, Jacen can have his moment. It was, to put it mildly, humbling, although much respect to my opponent (Chris) for setting up the move.

Good Lord, I feel like I just went to confession. Not sure what my penance ought to be.

so welcome

Thanks for the welcome. The loss was even tougher to stomach since I went down to a Kansan.

I see you're from Southwest MO--I'm actually from Springfield originally, then moved to New Jersey for grad school for the last eight years, and now I'm back in MO teaching. I was thinking I might look for a tourney in Springfield when I'm at my folks place during winter break, so perhaps I'll bump into you if you play in town.

This is quite a hilarious story; luck of the dice bite everyone at some point.
