So a friend of mine said he has heard rumors of Disney renewing WotC contract for SWM.
I don't believe it for a second and told him so. But I found myself wondering what would happen to our current game (v-sets and what not) if there was some truth to this rumor?

Yeah, I doubt they want to pay to get out of the current contract with FFG. Nor do I see WOTC wanting to pay for the license again.

It sounds like something that someone made up.

Since Fantasy Flight owns the gaming rights and Knight Models bought the right to produce miniatures (which are sweet), I think this is something somebody just made up.

Knight Models gave it up earlier this year, so FFG is the only player in the game now.

No wonder they haven't come out with any new miniatures in a while.

Nope Sandtrooper 5 pack was the last and it received very minimal distribution that was plagued with factory mispacks as of most of the later sets. Customer service when the line was active would be very helpful, sending missing pieces or even complete replacement miniatures, but not anymore.

Rumour is whatever the new Batman Miniature game they are launching was supposed to be part of them expanding their Star Wars license, but when that did not pan out they chose to pursue other licenses (LotR, DC).

Yeah, KM isn't doing a LotR game, they are making larger scale miniatures. Extremely high quality sculpting, for real show pieces. $60 USD for 1 74mm Miniature. The line consists of a total of 5 different models so far.

I really can't understand how they think their Batman game can compete with Hero Clix. There are also LotR Heroclix too.

I think the same as the rest, that WOTC has not nor will not get back into this game. However I do think you have brought up a valid point as in "WHAT IF" while I don't think it is really necessary to have pages of members giving out opinions on what would happen if the "what if" happens, but i do think the design team should at lest discuss it amongst themselves and have a decision on the back burner just in case.

What's there to discuss? By some extreme chance, if WOTC wants to buy the license back once it is up for renewal (probably a few years). If they are even able to, since they would have to outbid FFG, and I don't see them dipping too much into their Magic money for it. And then by some miracle, they will revive a system they dropped years ago.

WOTC's business decisions of late makes me think there is absolutely no chance of this happening. And if it does happen, and the game is revived, there is nothing to discuss. All our work goes down to fanwork, like it always has been. We aren't like the SWCCG group, who has contracts with LFL and Decipher.
