Next year's map list will be much more dynamic than it has been in year's past, so as a teaser to that I have updated the map list effective 1 July, 2012.

The following maps have been removed from Restricted and moved to Standard:

Throne Room
Hall of Judgement (Jedi Temple)
Muunlist Plaza

Best floor rules update ever. I'd kind of like to see Rancor Pit removed also, but just taking off Throne Room and Jedi Temple is worth celebrating.

So just to confirm, these maps cannot be used for the championship at GenCon this year?

I will celebrate Jedi Temple being gone. I would've liked to see Rancor Pit gone too, but I'm most surprised Smugglers' Base is still on.

I was a bit surprised to see a map list change 6 weeks away from GenCon.

It's funny people keep mentioning Rancor Pen. It had started as the first two and the person who brought it to me spoke of a lot of hate for them, Muunlist was more of an "if you want to", Rancor Pen was never mentioned. It can play virtually the same way too...

There has always been a floor rules change in July, just before GenCon. Has that ever not included a map list change? I know that July 2009 was when SSM first changed, which was a pretty huge meta change.

So what wizards maps are left besides, rancor pit and ravaged base? Am I missing some, or are there only 2 left?

Those two plus Bespin.

Ravaged Base? How come?

I'm perfectly happy that Throne Room, Muunilist, and Yavin are off restricted, but Rancor Pit would have been my first choice of a map to remove.

It's really interesting to me to see what maps people think should be removed from the list. People seem to agree in general that the ones chosen were bad, but Smugglers Base has been mentioned which I don't have a problem with at all, and Ravaged Base is in my opinion (and this has been my opinion for quite some time) one of the most balanced maps available. It's probaby the one map that I would hate the most to see taken off, and I use it for a huge variety of different squad types (mostly shooters, mostly melee, lots of movement breaking, little movement breaking, and so on).

I'm not sure I know what "Throne Room" or "Muunilist Plaza" are.

throne room = chancellors starship (ultimate missions and 2007 starter map)
Muunalinst = Clone Strike starter map (2nd map ever made and still one of the most balanced).

3 of my favorite maps gone to standard.

there is no fanfare from me.

Is this just to mess with the meta or do people actually think these maps are bad?

I've strongly believed for quite some time that both Throne Room and Jedi Temple are far too open and far too shooter friendly in a game where melee is already a pretty big disadvantage. That's not to say that there can't be shooter friendly maps; I think Peaceful City is quite good for shooters, but it gives melee characters much more of a fighting chance.

Like I said, Muunilist I could go either way on, but I wasn't a fan of it so I'm fine with it being removed. The other two I do think are bad maps.

Ill be honest I just have a general dislike of the map. It isnt anything super specific but the map seems awkward and I've seen people do some really stupid cheesy stuff on it.

@Echo

What about Jabba's Palace then?

What about it? I think it's FAR less shooter friendly than Throne Room or Jedi Temple. The lines of sight on it are actually pretty well thought out, making it so you only have very thin lines going from too far on one side of the map to the other, so you actually have to advance to get really wide shots.

It's better for shooters than melee, I think, but not so much it's unbalanced. Not nearly to the extent of the other two. I'd label it alongside Peaceful City as shooter friendly, but melee has advancement opportunities.
