Hmm, it's been a while since I came around these parts and Bloomilk, so I happened to see something that I felt might be worth mentioning :P

From what I recall, squads tended to run a mix of melee and shooters sometime back. However, from my observation of new squads here and on Bloomilk, the present trend seems to have shifted such that squads are either entirely melee or shooter-based, with mixed squads being much rarer than they used to be.

As I remember it, pieces like Loda used to practically shut down entirely non-melee squads, and Djem So left a sizeable dent in the number of pure melee squads being fielded (particularly Han STA/IC swarms, but that one's for obvious reasons).

To clarify, my observations were among the more highly-rated squads on Bloomilk, which apparently have respectable track records. I did not include squads consisting of just Nom Anor and a swarm of Caamasi in my observation, for instance.

So I was just wondering - is it just me, or has the game shifted such that there is no longer a need to have a melee/non-melee balance? Or is that 'need' just reduced now, in the face of the present game?

I think squads with a mix is generally better. The only reason I do all of one or the other is if I'm going for a theme.

what Weeks says.

Generally, unless your squad has an unbelieviable advantage in a certain area (usually movement breaking or activation control) packing all melee or all shooters creates a weakness to be exploited.

The best squads have a mix of both and i don't really see that changing.
