Sithborg wrote: The minis look great. Obsidian Squadron!!!! Concerned about the board, though. Looks to have no grid, which I'm not overly eager to learn to play without. No grid. You use maneuver templates to move the ships, and a ruler of some sort to determine arc or range. Sounds like the game is based on Wings of War, another dogfight game by FFG, based on WWI and WWII era dogfighting. (how appropriate!) |

Nice videos. I hope i can go to a convention like that someday. It really looks like it's tons of fun. Well the card game sounds all right, but i'm not seeing myself getting into that. The X-Wing game on the other hand, looks very promising. Especially when/if we will see expansions with additional ships, maybe even larger starships like Corellian Corvettes/Lancer Frigate etc. And it would probably be pretty easy to make custom ships from some of the SSBs we already have i'm definitely looking forward to this one! |

R5Don4 wrote: What does the scale of the ships appear to be? Very close to the scale of the SSB ones. The stuff being shown off at Gencon are working prototypes so I imagine the scale isn't finalized yet. I stopped by the FFG booth yesterday and watched a couple rounds of the demo game. The whole production reminds me a lot of Wings of War when played with minis. |

There was a pretty thorough run through over on Gameboard geek from a guy who played the demo. WoW the Star Wars version, just what I always wanted. |

I've played a few FFG games, its top quality. I can't think of any company i'd rather see holding the license. Myself, I own one FFG game: Tannhäuser, just want to show you a comparison between the prepainted minis from that game and some random swm exactly same base size |

Here are some pics from the demos that I played. The card game was fun. I liked the cooperative aspect. Everything was in a very early stage of development from the rules to the pieces themselves, so hard to say what the final will look like. |

Great that FFG have the Star Wars licence. I really think they are the only company big enough right now, besides Paizo maybe, that can do the licence justice. |

really wasn't impressed with the X-wing game. 2d plane, scale too large, firing distance too long for the scale, combat is a dice fest that becomes impossible to hit if your opponent rolls well. Models were nice but they are aparantly going to a different designer. I won't invest unless the mechanics get an overhaul. |

i'd pay for a rpg/board game of SW if it looked like the Gears of War board game. I want plastic figures not card games! |

How early in design is it vs. a final product you think from what you saw? and when was their planned or potential release window? I don't recall seeing one anywhere or just misread something. |

Planned release first quarter 2012. If it is that close it has to be in production by now. Possibly rules could change for now but will need to be finalized soon. |

Ah ok, cool. Thanks for the info. I still feel sketchy about getting into it, but I can imagine I'll end up grabbing whatever Starter set it is that comes out. |

I just hope they produce a few character minis in the same scale as SWM, I don't expect them to use the same rule set but I would love to see more sculpts for custom stats. The space combat game will be a dud unless it has the Millenium Falcon and Slave 1. |
