Its problem is that its weaknesses tend to be common in the current metagame--it has trouble with hidden (mobile, stealth, etc) shooters.

So they will just pop in and out until its dead or the rest of your squad crosses in a hurry to prevent it from dying, but the engagement will occur out of its LOS.

I can see it never getting to shoot in some competetive games depending on the map (though it will rack up its cost in Gambit in most games.)

I can just see this thing being pushed into the lava below :p (seriously, if Push allows for pushing into pits, Mustafar becomes too ridiculous. I don't think you can realistically cross that map if you're facing say Maris Brood + R2AM).

The Golan is definitely good, and I am very happy to see a Huge that is viable in 150pts. Even if the thing just gets picked off in the first few rounds by enemies it can't return fire against, it has served its purpose as a road-block. It should last at least 2 rounds, even Boba can't kill it on the first round by himself with a 20. And if your opponent isn't careful, you might even get a Splash attack on the first round into an opponents starting area.

Then if you think about it, is it worth running a 23 pt. piece that will collect 5 or 10 in gambit and die?

I think it can be because it will keep your opponent from camping on gambit and doing nothing while you work your squad into position and fall behind by a couple rounds. Also, most maps will have some very nice fire lanes to use this. I think this could be a very kool piece. Not for every squad, but it could be effective.

Becuase of Gambit, this piece will shorten games. I'm all for keeping the games to under an hour.

Too bad they wrote the rules so Emplacements aren't subject to a K-3PO type swap, or these things would be even more fun.

Sure it can soak up a lot of damage but it really can't dish out much for a 26 point piece - the same firepower as a Death Star Gunner?

How long would a Golan turret last in Gambit against a Han Cannon squad? Or a Landspeeder squad? Or Lord Vader B&B? Would it really be enough of a speed bump to be worthwhile? I think my favorite Speeder build could take it out easily by the end of turn 2.

I do like the fact that it's cheap enough to be Garm Bel Iblis's Reinforcements - so I only have it when I need it, and my opponent gets nothing when they kill it. That's how I'd be most likely to use it.

Oh, and it might be fun with Leia, Hoth Commander and Yoda of Dagobah. Having a Golan come back at full HP would be very frustrating.

Golan plus a Mon Cal Tech for Garm.

Plus you can replace the zombie Golan in what ever placement best fits it then.

umm..that is something that will not have to be worried about.

Emplacement - This character cennot move or be moved by another effect (such as Force Push), nor can its postione be changed through other effects (such as thrawn's). You may set it up anywhere on your half of the map instead of the normal starting area.

Sorry, adder. I think it is good that you can't swap it, more realistic.

Good catch. I'm still not looking forward to Force Push on Mustafar, but at least the turret is getting better and better in my eyes :)

Very true. But then there's nothing stopping your opponent doing the same. But i do not think the cannon will last that long as every thing will target it.

That's exactly what I want. I need it to last two rounds in gambit. When it dies, something big will be dead or severly hurt, I will have the points lead, and my opponent will have no choice but to chase down Han on Mustafar.

Better have a landspeeder :)

I'll remember that next time I play against you, if you happen to choose Mustafar as the map. :D

Probably still won't do me any good, though. :(
