Post subject:  TFU Figures that you will use in your squads

I was looking through the stats and I started thinking about the figures I am most likely to use. I am mainly a Rebel / Republic / NR Jedi player, so of course I am very excited about all of the figures for those three factions.

But then I started thinking about Luke, Hoth Pilot Unleashed compared to HoY. I really think I like Hoth Pilot a lot more than HoY. First, HPU is cheaper. Yes, he has only one attack, then it hit me that that one attack is not melee. That is huge to me because I like versatility, both in being able to shoot and in being highly mobile (like Rebels should be).

HPU's hp, attack, and defense are much higher, and he is still a pilot follower so he can still get evade and all of the awesome Rebel CEs (not sarcasm, they really have gotten better recently). Plus he can still Deflect any Evades that he misses. [rabbit trail: when will we see Captain Solo with the Pilot SA? He piloted the Falcon in all three of the OT movies]

Yeah, the lacks the ability to throw out four or more attacks a turn, but he does have the awesome (although I'm thinking it will be rarely used) Force Push 4 which to me makes up for it. I really don't think Demo Charge is going to be used very often, but I could be wrong about that. The ability to insta-kill a fig is quite nice.

And finally, two words: Force Renewal.

So, what do you think? What figures are you thinking about using, and let the pre-analysis begin!

Well off the top of my head here are some of the figures that I know I will use. I pretty much play Lightside Factions, and I prefer the New Republic, but I'm being pushed more towards Rebel at the moment.

Darth Revan
Shaak Ti, Jedi Master
Luke and Yoda
Obi-Wan Kenobi, Unleashed
Kazdan Paratus
Junk Golem
Juno Eclipse
Master Kota
Rebel Trooper on Tauntaun
2-1B
Garm Bel Iblis
Muun Tactics Broker
Proxy
Mon Calamari Medic

Figures I might play:

Princess Leia of Cloud City
Rebel Troop Cart
Rebel Vanguard
Vader's Apprentice, Redeemed
Felucian Warrior on Rancor
Maris Brood

I'm working on a few squads that I think could really work well with these figures.

To be honest I don't have a clue. The first time I'll be playing after the release is in a 200 point tourny on the 30th. I don't plan to start building my squad until I see which FU pieces I have to work with after I get my cases opened.

Shaak and Proxy are my big two.

As a Republic guy, I'm dying for Shaak Ti and Master Kota.

That being said, I think Revan + a couple Junk Golems and some UgBo's will be great. Draw Fire on the Junk Golems to go with their Shields to protect Revan from non-melee, then Revan tears it up in close. Junk Golems also have a +12 atk around Revan and Ambush will be easier to get off with Revan's MT.

Looking forward to experimenting with Garm Bel Ibis and Admiral Ozzel (don't have San Hill, so this will be interesting to start to learn with). Also looking forward to trying out Obi Wan, troop cart, & hoth trooper with repeating blaster.

After seeing the stats, the Rancor and the Troop Cart are off my list of wants.

The figures I would run competitively would include:
The Diplomat
The Broker
Ozzel
Trooper Commander guy

Figures I would run for fun would include:
E3P0

I think pretty much all of FU looks fantastic and I can't wait to play them all.

I'll certainly be playing the Ugnaughts, Proxy could become a mainstay, as could Juno for Rebels. I want to play the Knobby White Spider too in both Exar and Sidious squads.

I want to try and come up with an ultimate droid squad too using the Telosian Tank maybe. Not sure to do this via Seps or a Kazdan squad. Oh well, play both :) And Master Kota I will use also.

Top wants
Uggernaught x lots
Darth Revan
Kazdan
Kota
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Proxy
Rancor

Most dissappointing
AT-AT Driver - really wanted him to have some AT-AT ability other than Gunner!
Rebel on Taun Taun - only because he's Rare.
Han in Carbonite - WTF! Yes I've seen his stats. WTF!!!

I've been doing my traditional amount of heavy playtesting, and this is what I have learned.

Revan sucks. Well, let me rephrase. He's great until your opponent field the Muun Tactics Broker. He can't win in 100, and in 150 or 200, 1 of 5 things happens:

It's a Master Tactician face-off against another Revan or Thrawn;

Your opponent has San Hill/Ozzel and doesn't care if you're winning init;

Your opponent has Muun Tactics Broker and 20-30 characters and most rounds you're not winning init;

You also have Muun Tactics broker and so you're losing figs but either winning init or dicing off because your opponent also has Master Tactician;

or finally, You are winning because you opponent didn't do one of the four things above.

So, here are the top 10 figs of this set, IM educated O:

1. Darth Vader, Unleashed
2. Luke Hoth Pilot
3. Shaak Ti JM
4. Kazdan Paratus
5. Obi-Wan Unleashed
6. Rebel Vanguard (cheap missiles)
7. Felucian Stormtrooper Officer
8. Admiral Ozzel (If you thought San was tough, now you've got Opportunist Troopers.)
9. Luke and Yoda (It would be higher on the list if he had Duelist or Block)
10. Muun Tactics Broker (This guy is broken, it's just going to be a matter of figuring out how to break him.)

I think Kota with a couple of New Rancors finally gave the new Jabba a reason to hang out in the starting area.

The only mini I know I'll use is Juno, she's just so good for 8 points. She'll see play in almost every one of my squads, possibly even more play than Wicket. I really hope she's R not VR.

Han in Carbonite pretty much does what you'd expect, but it's pretty disappointing. It needs to be changed so that, at the very least, the Han player gets to place it in the opponents starting area.

Muun Tactics Broker really has my brain going. Seems to me though that you can just try and stall out the Muun player, even if he's gaining gambit he's still losing at least 3pts per turn (so a 2pt swing per turn, not enough to really pressure an opponent to go for gambit). And heaven forbid you face a San squad...

Here are the ones I look forward to playing the most:

Felucian Warrior on Rancor
Luke, Hoth Pilot Unleashed
Evo Trooper
Raxus Prime Trooper
Felucian Stromtrooper Officer

But the Rancor the most; they are my favorite :D

Things I'll run and in what type of squad:

Kazdan Paratus, with junk golems, quinlan or qui-gon JM.

Two ( if I can pull two ) Felucian+Rancor with thrawn, wequay leader, mas, and stormies.

Cloud car piliots, with (universe) wedge, and the new luke, unleashed.

The new Boba, with whatever. Probably with San Hill, and definetly Kota.

Emporer's Shadow Gaurd, in a B&B 200 squad.

Verpine Tech, with rebel trooper hordes.

VA redeemed, with the new Obi-Wan.

Luke, unleashed with piliots

Shaak Ti, JM, with stealth jedi, or whatever else. She's my favorite mini of the set, so I'm certain I'll find a good use for her. ( if I haven't already )

MTB is not broken in my eyes. Your squad is a ticking time bomb that will lose figures off the bat. Never a good idea. All that your opponent needs to do is play cat and mouse and your game could not go as you planned. (Unless you have means of killing of the MTB such as Revans FS, Sid CS Pawn, etc.)

I can see why immediately he would look good, but killing off one of your characters a round will not be worth it when your opponent knows what to do.

Well we know who doesn't have many lady friends...

Haha, all jokes aside, I will play very little figures from this set. It is a lot of fluff and gimmicks; something I don't really like a whole lot.

Kota and Brood I will use together often, Han Carb I'll use, Shadowguards, Evo Troopers, etc are all valid. Yuke will be a cool piece to experiment with as well.
