It just occurred to me that in placing the Golan turret anywhere on your side of the map, why not place it in gambit? You get gambit starting from round 1 and you know the opponent will be coming that way anyway. On the right maps it could buy some time to carefully get the rest of your squad into position.

That was my plan from the moment I heard about it.

You can also block the way to gambit with the cannon.

Hell you can cut off half of a map with several. The racor pit map is golan turret city. 8)

You can't block your opponent's way to gambit, because it's on your side of the map. You can block your opponent's way to fragile commanders or Han Solo in Carbonite, though.

I like the stats on this thing too, the 10+ beats the hell out of 6+ from the AT-AT scenario. Whatever that's worth :P

Not to mention the fact that their health to point ratio is insane; 4.61, that's better than anything, even Chewie, RH. With damage reduction nothing can kill that before the second or third turn.

Hmmm.... :?:

Mine too. I've been meaning to check each map to find the best spot for it on each of them in case I pull one in my release game.

If you start it next to a door, is that door pretty much open the whole game until it's killed (excluding R2/Lobot locking it)?

yeah, override would still close the door, unless you put the golan turret partway into the door, then it can't be closed.

I wonder if you even can place it in a doorway? I know medium/huge pieces can block a door open, but something has to open the door first.

Yeah, and at only 26 pts, in order to be worth its cost, it just has to survive for 6 rounds if it doesn't kill something. But at +10, it will probably make a few hits. I could see running Chewie of Hoth with it, in which case it would last a LOT longer. Chewie will be about useless for everything else, though.

I could imagine this thing seeing some play on the competitive scene, where gambit points are crucial. With the Hoth Turret, you basically control the Gambit Zone from round 1. Only mobile shooters (of which there are many, granted) or super-stealth (no longer quite so powerful) will be causing it un-returnable damage.

The Turret offers strategic options beyond the Gambit factor, though. Since it's an ally, your pieces can move through it, but your enemy's pieces cannot. It can serve as an excellent shield against the melee rush for your more fragile shooters in the back. It basically buys Han SC/Leia another round of hassle-free shooting, under the right conditions. It also allows your beatsticks to retreat back behind the turret for some quick hassle-free healing (2-1B).

I'm hoping to get at least 2 of these when all is said and done.

Has anyone realized what you can do with this thing on some maps. Say Mustafar in 150.

Han Cannon from either side, with the Golan holding gambit and blocking any melee from crossing the middle or the catwalk.

I am gonna abuse this one :)

I think that's exactly what he was thinking with it.

Plus, its a huge that can be played at any format. There are no maps that can keep him with out with its set up rules. And at 26pts - it can fit easily into any squad.

The golan by itself was pretty good, but when you figure in maps, it becomes crazy good. That thing can easily ensure gambit for a round or two, and annoy your opponent at the same time.

Except if someone picked Mustafar, then they are running a squad that will be able to take this down before too long. It might help though. This will be a very interesting piece.

This may be the piece that slips under the radar for affecting the meta.
