I've been concentrating most of my time to my the mystery maps, mostly because I want to have them done and ready with lots of time to spare. Her's what I can tell you about them so far.

-I went back to a handful of old maps that made the restricted list and used them as a reference point for this map.
-There's equal set up for Huge characters, this was a bit of an issue with the Mandalorian War Academy.
- This map has LOTS of nooks and crannies, and a lot of steps.
- The map is an unspecified locale, but will go quite nicely with the renegades and rogues theme of the new set.

Looking great Matt. Oh and it's ok if include some rough terrain that isn't stairs in a door just to change it up a bit. ;)

Sorry Don, you might as well skip this map.

He's already done that one, and it looks pretty darn amazing, as do the peaks of this one.

He just doesn't like how much it slows down his squad's relentless advance when he's trying to kick my ass.

Wouldn't miss it for the world.

Here's a thought, it wouldn't hurt to change it up a bit by making a less sterile environment that is more like a destruction filled war zone. You've had first hand life experience that can be applied here. Tell a story with the map, it doesn't always have to be a blank canvas. For instance it could be set in the aftermath of a massive :Ewok: vs. :Jawa: battle.

For handy reference though here is a list of other things that can be rough terrain other than stairs:

Steep Cavern walls
Severed limbs/dead bodies/droids/machinery parts
Craters
rubble from damaged walls/floors
pools of water/liquid
rocks
loose sand/snow/ice
barb wire
bungee sticks
oil slick
fire/burning structure
an open window

Floor tile is slick, and nice objects. But you're better than those escher stairs or whatever's going on there with the lighting.

Yeah someday, I'll do a blown out war zone, but honestly it's just so cliche'd in miniature games. I've always kind of avoided it. I'm not making this statement to spark a good natured debate, I'm just telling you why I've always avoided it. I just don't have a big interest.

I meant no disrespect Matt. If it weren't for you we would have no independant printed maps, that goes without saying. You were the first to have the balls to get it together and put independant printed maps out there for the masses. With every new map, your technique becomes stronger and more refined. You've always welcomed feedback, which the communtiy at large deeply respects you for.
I look forward to the day when you do make a mayhem strewn map. I don't exactly agree that it is cliched for a miniature combat game board to have elements of fighting on it any more than it is cliche to have Sith Lord miniature with a red lightsaber. I was just trying to nudge you out of your comfort zone, to help you make a better map. I've bought and played on every one of your SWM maps. I will continue to get everything you produce until the day you stop, which I hope is many, many years from now.
Perhaps I should take a lesson from you and make my own damn map and show everyone what I was talking about. I know me, and maybe I would start one, two, even three. Would I ever finish them?- not a chance. Would I ever print 'em up and sell them hoping to break even?- not on your life. So there you have it, in life there are people who do things and people who just dream about it. I'm just a dreamer Matt, I dream big, but I just dream. You are a doer, and for that I thank you.

Heh....I know at least one upcoming map that uses some of these for severe terrain. Of course, said map has stairs too....so... At least you get some of both. :P
