I was out with the missionaries, plus I tend to sit on skype instead and wait for people to ask there.

well; usually most people dont have a 1-2 hour chunk of time to spend freely. I know for myself that i cant be on VASSAL at all during the week pretty much; and even some weekedns too@ |

really? because I have seen no one on. Six months ago, a year ago you would find at least 3 or 4 people on in the evening. now noone. I find that sad. I have no expectations of people staying on there for the rest of their natural born lives but come on people used to be on there a lot more. |

That usually meant more free time.  in addition; 6 months ago there were a ton of leagues going on so of course there would be a lot of people online; either wanting to spectate a game; waiting for another straggler to play; or waiting for an appointed opponent to play. I remmber in one of my VASSAL league games there were 9 people watching the match.i see your point; maybe other people feel the same way as you and just dont want to even bother uploading VASSAL anymore and connecting. I know for myself that ive uploaded VASSAL 4 times this past two weeks; and 3 of those 4 times there was initially no one there. Maybe once people see on vassal that no one's online; they just shut it down; thus heavily reducing the chance to meet up with someone else online at that exact moment. Overall i would say the sure-fire way to meet someone online is to just set up an appointment with someone online. To help boost VASSAL users; id be willing to start another VASSAL league on here with you; or even just send a bulk message asking people to go on VASSAL. |

I actually did get on last night but, like Dean, saw no one there. I signed off and left Skype open for awhile but just ate static. |

Skype doesn't show me when people come online, so I can sit there for hours alone in the main room and people come and go, but it doesn't show up. I usually have to be told via skype that my opponent has come online so I can reconnect to vassal. So basically, maybe this is happening with you? |

Whenever I leave Vassal on for an extended period of time, it disconnects me. Since I'm busy doing something else usually, I don't notice that it's been disconnected, and thus I am missing anyone else who comes online. |

Every night that I have free time, I check to see if anyone is on Vassal. If nobody's on, then I go to do one of the other 5+ hobbies that I have going right now. I want to play more SWM too, but it's frustrating when there's nobody there. Maybe I'll just get into the habit of staying signed on and hoping that vassal doesn't DC me (and yes, that does happen and it is so frustrating). |

I really think what happens is that the vassal server disconnects you after a certain amount of time with no activity. Something like that happens to me too. I've had it that I was sitting and waiting on vassal, only to disconnect/reconnect and find that there are 2 other people in the Main Room as well. I really wish that didn't happen, but I don't think there's much we can do, other than DC/RC every 10 minutes or so.

We actually hooked up! I got to watch Dean play Weeks, then I played Dean last night. The games and the conversation were fun, and I learned a lot. I am going to try and get on as often as I can. Bummer I didn't do this until the end of my vacation week lol. |

I finally downloaded Vassal and all the files (correctly I hope.....). I have a couple questions about it: 1) How do I create squads? 2) Is there an instruction manual for controls? 3) What are the two D20 buttons for at the top of the screen? 1. There's a units tab that allows you to access all of the figures in the game. You highlight them, drag the icon onto the map, and there it is. To actually see the stats, people either create the squad on Bloomilk or whatever program they use and reference that during the game, or go old school like me and just put your cards on the desk while you play. 2. Not a clue. If there is one, I haven't seen it. 3. Click 'em. Those are your dice...a click creates a die roll and the results appear in the Vassal chat. 4. Oops...sorry...you only had 3. I guess I just like counting. |

Ian: the best idea is to find someone who has the time and is willing to walk you through the process of a Vassal match so you can get the hang of things. That's how I got started. |
