Just ordered Heroclix maps yesterday from their website. I don't play that often, just with my brother in law, but I wanted to try and hit a couple of local tournaments using the maps to start a grass roots effort to get them made legal at higher tournament levels. Its amazing that they aren't being recognized. Its not like Star Wars, where all 3 map creators do a pretty good job in creating some strategically sound maps and all of them are beautiful creations. If you play Heroclix, you know what I mean when I say that some of the maps they use look like they were drawn up on a napkin by 12 year old wielding a crayon. If you do play Heroclix, pick a few up.

(hoping mine comes today)

The heroclix maps, having not seen them in person, how well would they work with minis for RP? I realize the scale is off for actual games but any reason they would not work in RP campaigns?

You're right about the scale. 'Clix is 1.5" = 5 ft, so they're 150% larger. The other big difference is they're primarily modern setting. The Warehouse, Docks & The Desert Village maps are probably the most generic of the Mighty Maps (compared to the Underground Parking Garage & Office Highrise anyway).

If that works for your SWM gaming, then by all means support our other product line too :)

Thanks.

Now only if you lived closer to the $5 laminator. If you send me 5 or more maps, the price is only $4 per map to laminate them. I ship them back in a priority mail triangular tube (you pay actual postage).

The grid is 1.5 inches. and most of the themes are modern with a sci fi flare. I think there pretty good for RP actually. Then again I do want your money. :)

I'm considering it, but I suspect any money saved in laminating would end up being spent in shipping, particularly sending the stuff back. Lamination adds some weight.

Recieved mine last week, held a new map release tournament, both of them are excellent maps but especially loved the naboo map. We fought over the fountain. Haha

How much do you normally pay to laminate a map?

If I remember correctly, Office Depot charges $12 for 3'x2', and I wait until I get a 15% off coupon, plus 10% back on their rewards program. So, just say $10 to make it easy.

How much does a map end up weighing with the laminate you're using?

The map ends up weighing the same as the Office Depot maps.

If you are only laminating one map, it's not worth it. 5 maps ($4 each) is better. If you did 20 maps like I just did, then it's way cheaper.

After the regionals, I'll make a post about Gencon laminating.

It also depends on what thickness your laminating at.

I could get mine done at $5 a map but its the minimal thickness.

I prefer the mid range laminate which is $10 map

I could go all out for $18 map but then they won't roll :)
