Post subject:  Vassal update for DotF?

Does anyone know if/when we will be getting a Vassal update which includes the DotF minis?

Yes, I know that all the minis are already in the current Vassal mod...but I'm talking about the correct names and stats (HP, FP, CE-markers, etc), and also the minis showing up in their appropriate faction tabs (ie, the Sith Acolyte being in the Sith tab rather than having to go to the Separatist tab every time).

I, for one, would really like to see this update happen soon. It would be much easier to get on Vassal and play a game, if I didn't have to waste several minutes before each match by re-stat-ing the minis I'm using.

If someone would show me how to do it, then I'd be happy to volunteer to do all the work myself. Let's just get this thing updated!

27 views, but no replies so far. Does anyone have an answer? Or failing that, is someone willing to show me what needs to be done so that I can do it?

(Dean, you have too much stuff on your plate already. Find/assign someone else. :D )

To whoever: Read the documentation on the VASSAL site about creating a module extension. It's going to take some nerd aptitude, but it falls well short of rocket science.

That will allow you to create a DOTF (and future VSET) extension the way we had extramaps extensions in the past without impacting the main module itself which should remain customs free for those who choose not to use custom sets.

Once you have the main module and your new extension loaded, you'll be able to copy similar characters right within the editor from the module to the extension, and change all the relevent info as needed.

(I'm pretty much retired from VASSAL. I've been talked into doing another update of the main MOD to add some missing JC and West maps and I'll be fixing a few typos I know about too, but that's probably it for me. Everything VSET related should work fine in a single extension once someone is determined to maintain it.)

Thanks Jason. After doing some searching and reading, I think I'll be able to handle it. I'm nerdy enough. :D

I hope to have the DotF extension ready for Saturday this week. I might need to ask you a couple of questions via PM.

I'm glad someone is nerdy enough to do this. It sorta annoys me having to change the stats and stuff.

No problem. Welcome to the nerd cave.

A quick update, in case anyone is interested: I've finished everything except for the CE "*" for the Yammosk. It's the first huge-sized commander in the game, so I have to work some magic to format it properly. Other than that, the entire extension is ready to go.

One thing I've done is to flip every DotF mini on the horizontal axis, with the result that the minis are all facing the opposite direction of their regular counterparts; I hope this will help to eliminate confusion as much as possible. Also, I gave Jaina SotJ a purple lightsaber because she's supposed to have one, and I turned the Revanchist's red saber into blue, and I gave Sora Bulq a double-bladed (red) saber rather than leaving him with a simple staff.

I plan to have the extension fully completed in the next day or two at most. If anyone has any other suggestions, speak now, or forever hold your minis. :)

Sounds all good to me, I like the idea of flipping the pictures, that will be nice to tell them apart instead of adding a condition with a name or something.

Is there anyway in the little pictures themselves you can add a colored border of some sort to also help tell them apart? Either one color for all of DOTF or faction colors? if it's too much work let me know how I might be able to help if anyone likes the idea.

Here is an example

I would think distinguishing them is well covered enough. Between the careful selections by the Design team of the RCM and Tint switching them around, it should be enough.

The border idea really kills too much space when you consider how small the icons really are in VASSAL. Only 48x48 pixels.

It is FINISHED! :DSBoom: .... :Falcon:

As soon as someone (who?) puts it up on the website, you'll all have a much easier time using the DotF minis on Vassal. I just need to figure out who I need to send the file to for upload. Any suggestions?

Post subject:  Re: Vassal update for DotF?

I believe you can add yourself as a contributor on the VASSAL MOD site somehow for SWM and upload the file yourself.

If there's a problem with that, let me know and I can put it up there for you sunday evening. (If you don't have my email already, PM me for it.)

It's been long enough that I think I can take down all the extramaps extensions. No one has reported trouble with the compiled file for quite some time. So it should be pretty clean with just the mod, and then two extensions for VSET and for SSB.

Sure, I'll be happy to do that; I'll likely get to it tomorrow afternoon.

But I would still like to upload it (or have it uploaded) to this site too, since this is the place where the V-set was birthed, and we already do have the Vassal 10.0 mod here as well.

Woohoo! First to officially play on it! Looks awesome!

As a note to people who download it: You didn't screw it up if you did it as normal. The DOTF minis are listed at the BOTTOM of every faction, not in alpha order.
