You asked for it, here you go!!
Have your DOTF cards or the printed PDF? Have a group of friends? Want to have a real blast while getting to know some of the new pieces?
Then a sealed event is the WAY TO GO!
For years, some groups have been doing what we refer to as "Proxy Sealed" events. We use something like MiniManager or Bloomilk in order to 'open boosters', and then people use those lists in order to pull the figures from the cases.
With DOTF, we don't have open booster functions yet in either of those places, but I've got something better for you, and all ready to go!
Just download the file below, print it out, cut up the 12 boosters on each page, and go to town! If you want to make it as close to a real sealed event as possible, be sure to keep each 'case' separate. All of these have been carefully generated following the general practices that WOTC used for stuffing boosters. In each 'booster' you will find 4 Cs, 2 UCs, and then a R or VR. I very carefully divided up all of the pieces into categories so that the boosters would be stuffed appropriately. Like, in the old days, there were mini-clusters so that, for instance with Rebel Storm, all three Stormtrooper sculpts were in the same mini-cluster, and therefore, you could only possibly get 1 per booster. So, that kind of care has gone into developing this for you guys, and hopefully should produce very good, very well balanced sealed events. (Like, for instance, it's impossible to get both the Mando CIO and the Mando Tactician, two tempo control pieces, in the same booster!)
So, once you have the file downloaded, and the 'boosters' cut up, each player can grab two of the 'boosters'. Then they just have to go to their own collections, and pull out those 14 cards/pieces. Now you have two boosters of pieces to choose from for building your squad, just like a normal sealed event from the WOTC days.
So, the next thing I'm sure you're wondering....What point level should we play?? Well, that's entirely up to you, but I would recommend 150 points. Why? Well, here's some basic statistics about the DOTF set:
The average 'booster' (based on the attached file) has 134 points of pieces! That's actually pretty high compared to some of the WOTC sets. The minimum 'booster' still has 69 points, while the maximum 'booster' could have 226! (Thank you Salacious Crumb and Shimrra, lol) The cheapest piece in the set is the Yuuzhan Vong Worker at 4 points, but there are only 6 pieces total that are less than 10 points. So, reaching 150 with your squads should be no problem at all!
What if your group has a lot of players, but not many sets of DOTF cards, or not enough pieces to go around?? Well, that's OK. You will need only 3 sets of DOTF cards/pieces per 'case', and that's really only in order to cover all of the Commons. There are 18 Rares total and 12 VR, so you have to use 3 'cases' in order to need more than one set of R/VR cards. So, you really only need one set of cards/pieces for 2 people. So, if you have 12 players total, 6 sets of cards/pieces should easily cover everybody.
If anybody has questions about how this works out, just post them here.
